Minimum Education And Experience
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communication, English or marketing. Five to seven years experience within the field of communications/journalism. An equivalence of education and/or experience is acceptable.
Preferred Education And Experience
- Prefer 8 – 10 years of experience in branding, communications, marketing, advertising, management, donor stewardship or related work.; Only 5-7 years required.
- Some project management is a plus.
- Copy-writing experience.
- Writing in a style and tone suited to target audiences, messaging, proofreading and excellent command of grammar.
- Worked previously in a higher education environment and/or experience in an agency directly writing for higher education clients or the 15-25 year-old demographic.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write, edit, and proofread content for all internal, external, promotional, and other materials produced by NSM, including the website, email and social media.
- Write, edit, and proofread NSM print publications and articles according to the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook, or other usage guides provided.
- Develops and implements marketing communications from concept to completion, including message development, writing, project management, client interaction and other related duties with a special emphasis on:
- Student recruitment
- Engaging broader external audiences, including alumni and other individual donors, corporations, foundations, and other potential friends of UT Dallas
- Telling the stories of donors through printed and digital mediums
- Draft items for the Dean (e.g., speeches, press releases) and support the development of internal communications materials such as faculty/student resources.
- In collaboration with the Office of Communication:
- Assist with crisis communication and media queries
- Assist with and escorting reporters on campus
- Track media coverage via in print and online media
- Assist with communications team management including student employees and freelance support personnel.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
