Position Overview
Rocketship is seeking to hire an instructional and school leadership-focused Senior Director of Leader Development (SDLD). Driven by this belief, our Senior Directors of Leader Development (SDLDs) develop leaders to ensure every school is led by a transformational leadership team. To achieve this mission, DLDs partner with Vice President of Schools (VPoS), members of the Program Team, and other stakeholders to:
- Coach a portfolio of new and/or returning principals based on the region's needs.
- Build strong relationships with the principals in their portfolio.
- Work alongside NeST members to develop school leaders and their lead teams.
- Support the region in hiring, onboarding, developing, and retaining excellent school leaders.
Use data-driven practices to prioritize supportfor specific leaders and schools
- Analyze academic, persistence, retention, and proficiency-based data metrics in collaboration with regional team members to make appropriate resource allocation and coaching support decisions.
- Track and monitor progress for leader development and student outcomes, ensuring ongoing follow-up with the VPoS and other relevant NeST members.
- Hold regular meetings and maintain ongoing communication with the VPoS and other NeST members.
- Align with VPoS and other NeST members on coaching priorities for school leaders.
- Support the creation and implementation of coaching plans for portfolio leaders in partnership with their supervisors.
- Coach a portfolio of Rising Leaders (Cadre of Aspiring Principal participants and/or Principals-in-Residence) to ensure regions have a consistent pipeline of internal leaders ready to fill principal vacancies.
- Collaborate and share resources with regional team members and other Talent team members.
- At the request of regional leaders, partner with the regional team to oversee the preparation, execution and in-field follow up of nationally-led professional development programs, such as National and Regional School Leader Launch, Skill Labs, Monthly Principal development and Weekly Principal calls.
- Lead the design, preparation, execution and follow up for regionally created professional development sessions, based on regional data.
- Student Achievement: 100% of all schools led by principals in the portfolio meet the regional goals.
- Staff Retention: 85% of schools led by principals in the portfolio achieve 85% staff retention.
- Leader Retention: 85% of leaders in the portfolio are retained through the school year.
- Leader Promotion: 80% of principal vacancies in regions are filled with internal aspiring leaders
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Experience: 3+ years principal experience and/or 6+ years of instructional and leadership coaching experience require
- Proven ability to analyze and interpret data to identify trends, identify root causes, and develop strategies and tactics that yield results and achieve goals
- Proven ability to develop effective partnerships with multiple stakeholders working towards the same outcome
- Proven ability to drive improvements in student outcomes through instructional and leadership coaching
- Proven ability to provide clear, actionable feedback verbally and in writing that leads to improvements in leadership practices
- Proven ability to drive a strategy towards the desired outcomes, from planning through execution & follow up
- Ability to design and facilitate engaging and impactful professional development sessions for adults
- Exceptional ability to coach adults and inspire significant change in their actions
- Skills in critical thinking and problem-solving, along with the ability to coach and develop these in others
- Skills in organization, prioritization, follow through, and attention to detail, with ability to coach these in others
- Skills in effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to manage and monitor multiple projects at once, often under pressure with competing priorities and tight turnarounds, while maintaining composure, ensuring quality, and achieving results
- Marked experience and commitment to building and maintaining a culture of high integrity, mutual respect, operational excellence, and prioritization of diversity, equity and inclusion
- Proficiency in Relay Graduate School of Education frameworks and protocols (Observation Feedback, Weekly Data Meetings, Action Steps, See It Name It Do, etc.) strongly preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
