Position Summary

The Innovation Training Manager will be the central point of contact responsible for training primarily attorneys and staff, as requested or part of a practice group, on innovation resources for the firm. The role will be responsible for the needs of the learner and will identify the right solution and delivery method for the attorney or staff member to adopt the technology or process. They may coordinate with vendors or develop/deliver programs internally.

This role will collaborate with Professional Development team, subject matter experts, project sponsors and other colleagues in the Innovation and Research departments to create, design, and develop learning programs and resources on innovation and research tools. This role may undertake special projects, as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with colleagues in Innovation, Research, PD, practice group heads or business directors to provide learning solutions on innovation tools.
  • Develops and implements learning solutions to address identified gaps or challenges to assist lawyers with learning about and adopting innovation tools.
  • Promotes and presents sessions to practice groups in various offices on the innovation tools, processes, or resources. Creates practical examples on how to use the products customized to the GT environment.
  • Understands how GenAI, research, and innovation tools (e.g., Westlaw Precision, Lexis+, Lex Machina, Intelligize, Copilot, Contract Companion, BriefCatch, but not limited to) work and provides feedback on how the products (such as, challenges or issues) can be used or improved upon to work in the GT environment.
  • Uses instructional design principles for training programs internally or with vendors to define objectives, outlines course content and exercises, develops content, assessments and supporting materials for classroom instruction, virtual training, video, eLearning and weekly emails highlighting resources that are free, trial and/or available.
  • Provides one-on-one training to lawyers or consultation to practice groups that are adopting new innovation tools.
  • Manages vendor relationships on innovation, research tools/product training programs. Coordinates and collaborates with vendors to provide training on the firm’s tools or resources.
  • Provides training for new attorneys on the various research resources including Lexis+, Westlaw Precision, Lex Machina, Intelligize, etc.
  • Identifies ways to integrate innovation and research tools into the Associate Development program and partner with local Attorney Development Managers.
  • Partners with Innovation, Research, and PD by participating in planning meetings, pilot orientation sessions, conducting testing and reporting results, soliciting feedback from pilot users, and compiling statistics of overall pilot results.
  • Reviews and edits existing training documentation to be current with upgrades and/or new software as requested.
  • Tracks the programs provided through the Learning Management System or CE Manager. Provide training metrics as required.
  • Stays up to date with current trends in training, technology, and instructional delivery methods.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise with law firm research, innovation tools and solutions including, but not limited to Westlaw Precision, Lexis+, Lex Machina, Intelligize, Copilot, Contract Companion, BriefCatch, and other related tools.
  • Proficiency in facilitating and presenting training programs in classroom and virtual environments.
  • Proficiency in the application of instructional design, curriculum design, and adult-learning principles.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A self-starter who takes ownership of assigned projects and shows commitment to the job; ability to work independently.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all levels of the firm and collaborate well in a team environment to create support for programs.
  • High attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to shift priorities and manage change with a positive outcome.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, take initiative, and practice good judgment.
  • Provide outstanding client service and be proactive in seeking innovative ways in which to help colleagues.

Qualifications & Prior Experience

  • BA in political science, business, library science or related field required.
  • Advanced degree in library science, research or a Juris Doctorate preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the business or legal industry.
  • Success developing and establishing learning programs in a national or international, multi-office environment and familiarity with learning management systems is a plus.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly.
