Job Description

The Product Development Associate Manager will provide project management leadership to new product projects that support the Doors that Do More strategy within the Owen Corning Doors business. This position is responsible for leading and delivering a combination of small to medium projects while leading cross-functional teams through the New Product Development/Introduction (NPDI) Framework. Ability to influence across business units, and effective coordination of internal cross-functional team members, particularly through roadblocks and issues that would impede progress, are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads product development projects from definition through launch. This is inclusive of: defining the charter and scope; developing a project plan with identification of deliverables, resource needs, key milestones and risks; drives the cross-functional team to execute the plan, escalates to relevant stakeholders when needed; and secures gatekeepers approvals/alignment.
  • Overall accountability for projects through NPDI Stage Gate Framework, inclusive of the Technical and Commercialization deliverables. Manages key deliverables due dates, adheres to the gate date schedule, and obtains approvals/decisions when required. Works closely with the Product Manager to develop and present the gate documentation. Gate documentation will include business case information, marketing & commercial readiness plans, manufacturing feasibility, capital requirements, financials, risks, next stage deliverables, resourcing needs, etc.
  • Effectively navigates the NPDI Stage Gate Framework: structures the planning; organizes and coordinates the teams’ deliverables; ensure outputs for each stage are complete and accurate; proactively manages scope creep; escalates any impacts to the timeline, resourcing or budget; motivates the team to deliver the project; and ensures the framework and associated templates are properly and consistently utilized.
  • Leads and influences cross-functional teams to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work; tries to resolve any issues/challenges directly with team members and escalates to management if needed. Cross-functional team members include engineering, industrial design, product management, operations, sourcing, product management, product marketing, marketing ops, etc.
  • Identifies and drives resolution of critical issues and/or implementation hurdles, escalates when appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain working relationship with other functional groups at varying leadership levels.

Skills:

  • Experience working and leading projects within a product development and commercialization gated process (adaptive and predictive).
  • Experience in leading multi-functional teams with the ability to lead, thrive, provide guidance, and navigate through process and roles/responsibilities ambiguity while keeping the project on time and within budget.
  • Proven leadership skills in driving delivery and working collaboratively/effectively with others through a dynamic matrix organization: communication, facilitation, interpersonal, influencing, relationship-building and presentation skills.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to timeline and details. Proven project management experience with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; tailors’ messages appropriately to the audience. Project management skills; knowledge of process and project planning best practices.
  • Effective decision-making skills: ability to negotiate and balance decisions and priorities across diverse needs of multiple constituencies. Makes timely decisions in the face of risk and uncertainty.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7+ years of experience with a strong track record in driving implementation of small to moderate product development projects on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand product strategy/requirements and incorporate them into project planning.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects at the same time.

Academic/Credentials/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or any related field required.
  • MS, MBA or other advanced degree preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
