As a Workstation Performance Engineer, you are responsible for performance analysis on our ThinkStation and Thinkpad P-series workstation products. You will be responsible for analyzing CPU, memory, GPU, storage (including RAID), battery life (for mobile products) performance, as well as identifying any related issues. You will work with development teams to resolve these issues. For new products that are entering production, you will be responsible for testing, verifying, and documenting performance in comparison to prior generation products as well as performance differences within those products (such as CPU and GPU SKU differences).

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and review benchmark results with an eye towards an in-depth understanding of what the results mean, and when the results may be incorrect, or are indicating performance issues related to hardware, thermal, power, and/or software/driver/firmware issues. Work with senior members of the team to help resolve or explain these issues
  • Execute performance test plans. Build up systems and swap hardware (CPUs, GPUs, memory, and storage devices) as needed. Install OS’s, drivers, BIOS, and firmware updates. Load and run various benchmarks to test the performance of the CPU, memory, GPU, storage, and battery.
  • Put together and present data to both the performance team as well as the sales teams and directly to customers
  • Run performance analysis against competitive products to identify and understand how we compare.
  • Help develop and maintain department tools to document and search benchmark results

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field.
  • Basic understanding of computer architecture
  • Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux operating systems, BIOS, device drivers
  • 1+ year work experience in engineering

Perferred Qualifications:

  • Some background in coding is preferred, such as python, Java script, etc.
  • Knowledge in the area of artificial intelligence is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Eagerness to learn new concepts and take on new challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer first attitude required
  • Willingness to be flexible and change depending on the needs of the business

This position will be based in our North America Headquarters in Raleigh, NC. Our office has transitioned to a hybrid work environment supporting 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. Candidates that are already local to Raleigh, NC are preferred.
