Expression Manufacturing LLC is a CDMO that specializes in cell and lentiviral vector manufacturing for biopharmaceutical clients. The manufacturing team, led by William Swaney, an industry pioneer and former head of viral vector CMO operations at Cincinnati Children’s, has extensive experience in manufacturing lentiviral, retroviral, and AAV products, as well as genetically engineered cell therapy products. The Company has a 43,000 square foot manufacturing facility in West Chester, Ohio, with state-of-the-art laboratory space and advanced modular cleanrooms, with separate areas dedicated for early phase and scale-up manufacturing of GMP cell and viral vector products.


We are seeking an experienced Sr. Manager of Operations. The Sr. Manager of Operations will oversee the procurement and inventory management processes to ensure efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. This role will play a critical part in supporting the company's growth by optimizing supply chain operations, establishing robust procurement strategies, and managing inventory levels to meet the demands of our expanding business. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.


Responsibilities

Develop and Implement Procurement Strategies:

  • Design and execute procurement strategies that align with the company's growth objectives and budgetary constraints.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers, submit RFQs, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions for purchase contracts.
  • Manage end-to-end purchasing process from requisition to item receipt and storage.
  • Monitor market trends and conduct supplier evaluations to ensure high-quality, cost-effective sourcing.
  • Maintain vendor pricing and certification documentation.


Inventory and Warehouse Management:

  • Oversee inventory planning, forecasting, and replenishment to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Implement inventory control procedures to minimize excess stock, reduce waste, and ensure accuracy.
  • Manage inventory counts and valuation.
  • Manage warehouse safety protocols to protect employees and minimize risk and exposure.
  • Optimize warehouse layout to improve inventory flow for item receipts, returns, and storage.
  • Implement warehouse controls to protect inventory assets.
  • Utilize NetSuite to track and analyze inventory metrics and make data-driven decisions.


Supply Chain Optimization:

  • Streamline supply chain processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists and finance, to align supply chain activities with business goals.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks and disruptions to maintain continuous operations.


Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage the procurement and inventory budget, ensuring alignment with financial objectives, with particular attention to cash flow objectives.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to procurement and inventory management.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to achieve financial efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Finance Team to align objectives and processes.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement, inventory management, and supply chain operations.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing procurement and inventory functions in a high-growth environment.
  • Experience managing sterile, single-use inventory and knowledge of quality assurance standards desired.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems. NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage, adapt, and scale processes in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment with changing priorities.
