About The Position

In Order to Succeed in this role

  • 10+ years of experience in a safety role, construction experience highly preferred
  • Demonstrated history of successfully building relationships and establishing trust with jobsite personnel and craft workers
  • Working knowledge of Worker’s Compensation regulations, Department of Occupational Safety & Health rules and regulations
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, or related or combination of experience and degree
  • Certified in OSHA 30 and CPR/First Aid
  • Computer proficiency required; experience with safety tracking systems preferred
  • Technical knowledge of the following: Asbestos exposure, Lead exposure, Flammable storage, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (Hazwoper), Respirator fit training; Equipment, Rigging/Signaling, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Scaffolding, Trench/Excavation, Blood-borne pathogens, Electrical safety, and Flagging
  • Strong attention to detail with organizational and time management skills

Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Portland Safety Team
  • As a member of the Portland Leadership Team, demonstrate ability to understand field perspective and leverage that understanding during key decision making meetings
  • Manage Accident Prevention Program and update codes and regulations as needed
  • Actively collaborate and build relationships across the organization, specifically with field leaders, project personnel, and Lewis leadership team
  • Foster and promote a company-wide safety culture
  • Represent Lewis at regional and national safety and health conferences and activities
  • Proactive and responsive to job site needs and/or concerns and ability to resolve complex problems

Incident Investigation (Personal Injury and/or Property Damage)

  • Collaborate with jobsite teams during incident investigations, report findings to leadership team and Safety Committee, and make recommendations for safety prevention and training
  • Represent Lewis in matters relating to OSHA citations
  • Assist with processing of general liability insurance, property loss, and vehicle insurance claims
  • In collaboration with People Services, assist in management of Workers’ Compensation claims

Site Specific Safety Plan and Safety Audits

  • Lead site safety planning process during preconstruction and ensure site safety plans are administered
  • Coordinate AMR services on site as needed
  • Lead compliance audits for regulatory agencies
  • Ensure accurate documentation of safety plans, procedures, violations, and corrective action
