Senior Tax Operations Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Tax Processes: Oversee tax-related processes and procedures, managing a team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Prepare and Review Returns: Handle the preparation of personal, corporate, estate, and trust tax returns, including complex cases. Review and approve all returns, except those requiring specialized expertise.
  • Manage Tax Accruals: Review tax accruals and related working papers to ensure accuracy.
  • Client Engagement: Serve as the director-in-charge for various clients, billing, and discussing fees as needed. Act as a key client contact for several engagements.
  • Complex Tax Planning: Perform complex tax planning, including BNA projections, and analyze and respond to IRS notices.
  • Client Representation: Represent clients before the IRS and communicate significant tax developments to the firm.
  • Tax Research: Conduct complex tax research and review research projects prepared by others.
  • Team Collaboration: Assist accounting and auditing staff in client meetings, supervise and manage tax staff, and participate in departmental administrative projects.
  • Professional Development: Work with directors to set standards for tax staff and provide guidance and evaluation. Act as a resource and mentor for tax staff.
  • Client Service: Ensure high-quality work and attentive service, fostering strong client relationships and quick turnaround.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Time Management: Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Industry Expertise: Stay updated with industry trends and developments.
  • Recruitment and Training: Assist with the recruitment and training of tax department personnel.
  • Networking: Build a network of business contacts, engage with prospective clients, and cultivate referrals.
  • Community Involvement: Contribute to community organizations and participate in volunteer opportunities.
  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (such as a law degree or a master's in taxation) is highly desirable.
  • CPA certification.
  • Minimum of six years of recent public accounting, tax, and review experience (experience with trusts is a plus).
  • At least two years of management experience, with a proven ability to lead and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in tax software programs (e.g., Document, Engagement, CCH Suite - Axcess Tax, QuickBooks).
  • Strong ability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize tasks effectively.
