Summary of Position
Under general management, supervises the daily operations of a medical billing team including claim submission, denial follow-up, and underpayment analysis. Establishes and maintains systems to ensure that the department meets company financial and operational objectives. Provides training and support to staff regarding systems, processes, procedures, and customer-service standards. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Medical Billing. EPIC experience is a plus!.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates daily departmental operations, ensuring organizational quality and compliance standards are met.
- Supervises medium size group (typically 5-15 employees) of nonexempt staff.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities as assigned in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures.
- Maintains a thorough understanding of automated billing systems, industry standard billing practices and requirements and ensures timely communication with team and department members.
- Continuously evaluates effectiveness of current processes and procedures and makes recommendations to support departmental and company goals.
- Provides administrative support to both internal and external customers including, but not limited to assisting in patient complaint resolution, payer, and other regulatory authority inquiries.
- Resolves other issues within established scope of departmental parameters and policies.
- Promotes atmosphere of collaboration and service excellence.
- Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, accounting, or an appropriate discipline (or equivalent education, training or experience) preferred.
Skills and Experience:
- Requires the ability to effectively supervise a group of non-exempt staff.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in medical billing and insurance follow up, preferably within a multi-specialty group or outpatient clinic.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding, general accounting and medical terminology.
- Demonstrated organizational, leadership and teamwork skills.
- Excellent customer service. Strong organizational and problem resolution skills.
