National Transformation Director, Stronger Change Office

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF) seek a hands-on and strategic national transformation director for the Stronger Change Office. This leadership role oversees Market Analytics, Standards of Excellence, Staffing, Marketing, Affiliate Shared Services, and special projects across Stronger’s member and client affiliates. The National Director reports to the Chief Change Officer (CCO) in the Stronger Change Office at PPFA. The Stronger Change Office (SCO) is designed by, for, and with affiliate leadership across the country focused on strengthening affiliates and facilitating the innovation needed to build the Planned Parenthood of the future.

This role will supervise others.

Purpose:

  • This role leads six critical affiliate-driven capabilities in coordination with the Chief Change Officer (CCO):

○Market Analytics

○Standards of Excellence / Quality Improvement

○Affiliate Staffing / Workforce

○Hyperlocal Marketing

○Affiliate Shared Services; and

○Special Projects & Emerging Needs

  • Enable affiliate leaders to make strategic and business decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with longer-term needs and sustainability.
  • Provide overall direction and guidance to 5 directors and special project dotted-line staff and consultants
  • Bring transformative insight to service/program development which accelerates the evolution of Stronger Change Office
  • Identify opportunities and challenges to continue the relevance of the Stronger Change Office with breakthrough approaches and solutions
  • This position will be responsible for overseeing the full cycle of transformation activities, including planning, training, and evolving these functions, and, in collaboration with key leaders, will own the transformation framework of the organization.
  • Leverage knowledge of the healthcare business, knowledge of the healthcare operations, and knowledge of leading-edge solutions to transform the way affiliates operate and provide services to patients.

Delivery:

  • Provide direction and leadership to Stronger Change Office initiatives and teams, driving cross-functional alignment.
  • Mature affiliate-facing consulting support and product development through multi-year strategic planning and roadmaps to support the CCO and affiliate business priorities.
  • Serve as a consensus builder and an integrator of people, platforms, and processes aligned with the affiliate business needs, delivering a superb Stronger membership experience.
  • Serve as primary and/or team member on critical Stronger Change Office projects.
  • Represent and be a decision-maker within the scope of the Stronger Change Office in cross-division and affiliate meetings.
  • Regularly interact with senior management and operational staff, senior consultants, affiliates and other department and program senior staff.
  • Partner with Stronger’s Senior Director, Membership, Business and Operations, and CCO to manage the department budget and ensure fiscal responsibility and spending that drives key performance indicators.
  • Builds strategies to execute improved and relevant programs and services, pivots teams as necessary
  • Quality: Builds new standards to execute improved programs and services
  • Special projects as assigned.

Engagement:

  • Advances/challenges Stronger Change Office team thinking to embrace transformative new approaches to work
  • Build understanding and engagement about Stronger Change Office capabilities with senior leaders at PPFA and affiliates.
  • Expand internal and external collaborative networks to support program innovation.
  • Coordinate the use of external resources involved in the Stronger Change Office, including, but not limited to, interviewing, negotiating contracts and fees, and managing external partners and resources.
  • Manage and help develop the team of director-level and junior-level staff to ensure continued growth in the impact and effectiveness of Stronger’s transformation services.
  • Drive consistent application of Stronger Change Office methodologies, playbooks, and standards across Stronger projects, systems, and services.
  • Work collaboratively across SCO leadership and relevant PPFA teams to identify critical issues, and recommend, design and/or implement appropriate solutions

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; Masters in relevant field preferred (MPH, MBA, etc.)
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant healthcare work experience.
  • Record of success in senior-level innovation and program design roles in healthcare, government, and/or not-for-profit organizations.
  • Strong business acumen, including industry, and domain-specific knowledge of Stronger Change Office and its core initiatives.
  • Ability to handle detailed, complex concepts, problems, and multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, drive collaborative decision-making, and develop and execute strategic and operational plans.
  • Leadership experience in cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders, experienced in getting to “yes” in a collaborative, consensus-driven style
  • Excellent ability to conceive, draft, proofread and edit written materials quickly, including demonstrated ability to understand and communicate about complex, technical, or sensitive subjects in a clear, concise, and engaging manner.
  • Leader of both direct team members and matrix team management, experience leading teams while prioritizing and managing conflicting priorities for self and others
  • Excellent skills in collaborating across divisions, engaging colleagues at all levels in projects and processes while continuing to own and drive them.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, learn and process information quickly, and exercise good judgment when dealing with a wide variety of people.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize a multi-million dollar budget with many outside vendors and internal projects.
  • Experience working in a highly matrix or federation environment
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • High proficiency in Google products
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities and ambiguous situations

Travel: 10-15% of the time the job requires domestic travel

$188,000 - $198,000 a year

Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k. We also offer voluntary opt-in for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Transportation/Commuter accounts.
