Job Overview

The responsibilities of the Director of Software Engineering include leading a team of software engineers, collaborating with product managers and other business unit teams to improve policies and standards of software development. To be successful, you should have prior organization leadership experience, be able to collaborate with team members, and be a strategic problem-solver. You should have experience transforming a traditional engineers build it, IT runs it model into a “you build it, you run it” cross functional approach to software development.

Accountable for leading people, setting direction, and deploying resources; typically, responsible for attracting and selecting talent; onboarding new employees to decrease time to productivity; driving performance through their team members by setting direction, providing feedback, and creating a trust-based, inclusive work environment; developing employees through coaching and feedback; rewarding and recognizing employees via ongoing recognition and core pay-for-performance practices. Results are primarily achieved through the work of others and typically depend on the manager's ability to influence and negotiate with parts of the organization where formal authority is not held. Provides leadership and direction to employees either through other managers or directly to employees. Develops, adapts, and executes functional or departmental strategy to achieve key business objectives in area of responsibility.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Work with the business unit leader to plan and execute on business strategy
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to transform the business unit’s engineering team to an agile DevOps and cloud-oriented team
  • Lead and facilitate effective cross-functional collaboration across groups within the business unit’s organization
  • Implement standards and procedures to ensure quality standards are met and maintained
  • Understand and collaborate on the complete product lifecycle from concept through execution
  • Advise ideas to improve sprints and efficiency
  • Build, develop, and manage an engineering team capable of carrying out initiatives
  • We embrace innovation at all levels and encourage ownership

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of engineering experience with 4+ years of management experience–
  • Previous working experience in software design and development of customer-oriented products
  • Must be knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management
  • Planning, communication, organization, and people motivation skills
  • Experience evaluating, recruiting, and developing engineering talent
  • May manage and optimize a blend of onshore and offshore engineering talent

Required Software Experience

  • SaaS in healthcare space
  • Agile/scrum experience with focus on experimenting, inspecting, and adapting
  • ASP.NET/C#/EF/SQL/JavaScript, React, Power BI
  • Azure PaaS (Web Apps, Functions), Docker, Azure AD, Terraform
  • Familiarity with medical billing a plus
  • Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and orchestration tools a plus
