Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing administrative and strategic services to the human resources department. Individual will work with the Human Resources Director, EEO Officer, regional Support Team, regional Managers, and other team members to maximize the efficiency of the department in support of organizational objectives and standards. This position will also engage with employees.


Individual will serve as the administrative support and/or lead for the following programs and processes: hourly recruiting, new hire orientation, employee benefits, LOA processes, and as the EEO Coordinator for PMI. The HR Generalist will provide assistance to regional teams' needs and special projects. This Position under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources (Asphalt) will assist in various HR functions across LOB regions.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Support all internal and external HR related inquiries or requests.
  • Responsible for training and educating employees and managers on EEO principles, regulations, and company policies.
  • Under the direction of the EEO Officer, participate in the preparation of required EEO reports, compliance audits, and other related documents.
  • Responsible for end-to- recruiting of hourly employees, this includes posting jobs, identifying candidates, issuing offer letters, onboarding process, and new hire orientation. Attend career events.
  • Responsible for overseeing and administrating various employee benefits. Assist employees with enrollment in benefits programs, conduct presentations and meetings to explain benefits, and answer questions or concerns from employees about their benefits.
  • Provide support with LOA and ADA process.
  • Partner with safety to maintain and implement all LOB DOT and Non-DOT quarterly drug screens, and post-accident screens providing needed follow ups and notifications.
  • Partner with Safety on various overlapping functions such as annual updates to physical job requirements, and other HR/safety initiatives as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring all job descriptions are reviewed and updated annually.
  • Ensure all employee records are maintained and updated with new hire information or change in employment status.
  • Responsible for completing exit interviews.
  • Responsible for ensuring all facility compliance boards are current and up to date per legal guidelines.
  • Under guidance of the Director of Human Resources, support various projects as the need arises.
  • Under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources assist in the development of various HR initiatives, policies, memos, letters, newsletter, presentations and/or projects.
  • Produce reports on general HR activities. Create and maintain various HR electronic databases, reports, metric tracking, and spreadsheets as needed within the department, utilizing Excel, Tableau, Viewpoint and Success Factors.
  • Provide support for the creation and implementation of required training, including preparation, review, deployment of new programs, and distribution. Must be proficient using Power Point and Microsoft Publisher.
  • Coordinate training sessions and meetings.
  • Coordinates and plans, together with Human Resources Director, employee functions/activities for employees.
  • Serve as back up for the region administrator for the following programs: Click boarding, jot form, ten street & DocuSign.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dealing with critical/confidential information; restricts discussion/knowledge of activity to a “need to know” basis.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.


Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR related field or 5 years comparable experience preferred.
  • Human Resources professional certifications preferred.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 1-2 years related experience in an office/HR setting, performing administrative tasks.
  • Experience in a construction environment preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English is preferred.


Work Requirements

  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of Tableau
  • Must be able to create effective spreadsheets using pivot tables, V Look ups and formulas within Excel.
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must be able to work with confidential information and maintain discretion.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter and flexible with changes.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and operate a vehicle safely.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as per company policy.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required. Including some nights or weekends on rare occasions


Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions.
  • High standard of ethics, integrity, and trust.


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • May occasionally lift move/carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally use exertion forces of pushing/pulling of up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Tempo is fast paced with deadlines.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be moderate.
