About the Role:
Applicants must have a PhD in a physics-related discipline and the ideal candidate will have expertise in optical physics or photonics, quantum optics, quantum information and technology, or condensed-matter physics, but we welcome outstanding candidates in all areas of physics. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a general interest in other areas of research beyond their own. Postdoctoral experience may be an advantage but is not required. Editorial experience is also not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for a Senior Editor position.
Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor of the journal. They will handle original research papers and work both independently and closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review. They will also be involved in the commissioning and editing of Review, Comment and News & Views articles, as well as writing editorial content for the journal.
This is a challenging and intellectually stimulating role that calls for a highly motivated individual with demonstrable literary skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely fashion and a keen interest in the practice and communication of science. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the research community through laboratory visits and international conferences, therefore the successful candidate must be confident and enthusiastic about communicating with fellow scientists and willing to travel (when appropriate and required).
This role can be located in our New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Berlin, or Heidelberg offices based on a hybrid working pattern and on a full-time, permanent basis.

US Annualized Base Salary Range: Associate Editor: $74,000 | Senior Editor: $91,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
