Our client is a well-established and well respected contract development and manufacturing organization(CDMO). They have been in business for over 30 years and have over 5,000 employees globally.Their core focus is working on developing and manufacturing oral solid dose(tablets and capsules) finished drug products. They maintain a strong global presence in the pharmaceutical industry, and they are able to distinguish themselves in the market place by providing services that allow a product to be developed and manufactured all within one organization.


Director of Business Development Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential partnerships to capture new accounts while nurturing existing business.
  • Forge relationships with key decision makers.
  • Lead contract lifecycle activities from drafting through completion of the negotiation process, and contract execution.
  • Communicate with clients clearly and professionally.
  • Understand client goals, pipeline and forecast using all tools available.
  • Attend conventions and other industry events to develop relationships with potential customers to identify business opportunities.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through regular client contact, soliciting feedback.
  • Report and develop recommendations to address client dissatisfaction; respond to all client requests.
  • Review, draft, negotiate, and finalize agreements for CDMO business. Maintain a deep understanding of the contract templates, legal risks, and liability; seek input from functional head to understand company position on each contract situation.
  • Follow market developments.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to be presented to senior leaders; ensure what is presented fully aligns with what can be delivered.
  • Achieve monthly & annual sales goals; manage business development activities within approved budget.
  • Travel to US clients and trade show events.
  • Attending trade show events, business seminars and entertaining existing/new clients.
  • Understand the healthcare industry, market dynamics, trends, competitors, and FDA regulations.
  • Understand and address both business and technical needs of clients;
  • prepare contracts and proposals for existing and new business opportunities.
  • Present sales opportunities and key territory activities to business development team and senior management on monthly basis.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust metrics to measure success of CDMO activities.
  • Report sales and forecasts using business planning tools.
  • Present results to senior leaders; present areas of concern and potential solutions as well as identify opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS/BA in business or a science discipline with 5-10 years of pharmaceutical experience.
  • Experience developing and managing relationships in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably with brand companies. This includes effectively and successfully negotiating and securing contracts relating to contract manufacturing and development activities in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Self-directed and motivated and can work on own initiative with limited supervision.
  • Highly collaborative and able to develop and maintain relationships within the company.
  • Expert in developing relationships with customers and potential customers and is well connected with decision makers in the branded pharmaceutical industry.
  • Highly effective at communicating, influencing, and negotiating.
  • Knowledgeable on the technical aspects and capabilities of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.
  • Understanding of trends in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Ability to travel frequently.
