General Description

As a member of the executive team, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Urban Strategies leads the daily operations and administration of the organization. Under the leadership of the President, the COO oversees all operational aspects including risk management, facilities, maintenance, human resources, and information technology. From ensuring seamless policy implementation to fostering a positive work environment and driving strategic initiatives aligned with the organization's mission, the COO plays a critical role in leading Urban Strategies. With a focus on efficiency, compliance, and growth management, the COO's contributions are instrumental in shaping the future trajectory of Urban Strategies, its faith-based partners, and their joint impact on Latino children and families.


About You

You are innovative and attentive to all potential, upcoming, and current business operations. You will also be a team player who works with all supporting departments to ensure that proper support has been provided for each organizational unit and their individual project needs.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in operational roles within mid-sized businesses or comparable organizations with 300 or more employees.
  • Proven ability to drive operational improvements and achieve strategic goals.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in analyzing complex issues and developing innovative solutions.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish)and/or bicultural (Latino)
  • Knowledge in philanthropy or public grants


What You’ll Be Doing

Operational Leadership

  • Serves as a primary leader for internal operations, working closely with the President and management team to build a culture of organizational excellence, balancing robust internal systems and controls with a spirit of mission and innovation to drive wholistic community transformation.
  • Responsible for managing core internal functions and leaders including compliance, risk, assets, technology and people functions.
  • Drive seamless coordination among various departments, ensuring that all operational activities are synchronized and integrated with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead initiatives to foster cross-functional collaboration and shared purpose.
  • Spearhead continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, data, and best practices to achieve peak efficiency, agile productivity, profitability, and excellence across all functions.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Design and implement comprehensive risk management frameworks that anticipate, identify, and mitigate operational risks. Ensure the organization is resilient and prepared to navigate challenges while protecting its assets and reputation.
  • Lead the organization's compliance efforts, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and internal policies. Proactively address compliance issues, safeguarding the company’s integrity and minimizing legal and operational risks.

Facility and Asset Management

  • Develop and implement advanced facility management strategies that maximize space utilization, safety, and operational efficiency. Ensure facilities are aligned with business needs and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee the management of company assets, including equipment, technology, and real estate, ensuring their optimal use and longevity. Lead initiatives to enhance asset performance and return on investment.
  • Drive the company’s commitment to ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. Implement proactive measures to maintain a safe and sustainable work environment.

Human Resources and Talent Management

  • Oversee all HR functions with a strategic lens, ensuring talent acquisition, retention, and development are aligned with the company’s long-term objectives. Foster a high-performance culture that attracts and retains top talent, particularly in areas critical to the organization’s mission and community impact.
  • Lead initiatives to develop the next generation of leaders within the organization. Implement robust succession planning to ensure leadership continuity and organizational stability.
  • Cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork, innovation, and employee growth. Lead efforts to enhance employee engagement, particularly in ways that align with the community-focused mission and the organization’s values of servant leadership, intentional compassion, and authentic relationships.

IT Strategy and Management

  • Oversee the development and execution of IT strategies that support and enhance the company’s operational capabilities. Ensure the IT infrastructure is robust, secure, and scalable to meet evolving business demands.
  • Support IT leadership’s utilization of technology to enhance operational effectiveness so that the company’s strategic goals are met.

Financial Management

  • Partner with the Finance Director to develop and implement financial strategies that drive operational excellence and profitability. Collaborate in the preparation and management of budgets, forecasts, and operational plans to achieve financial targets.
  • Collaborate in the monitoring and analysis of financial performance, implementing strategies to optimize revenue, control costs, and maximize profitability.

Strategic Planning and Execution

  • Serve as thought-partner for the President and the executive team to develop and execute strategic initiatives that drive business growth, market expansion, and operational excellence. Lead efforts to capitalize on market trends, particularly in areas that intersect with the strengths and services of community and faith-based organizations.
  • Evaluate trends in the federal funding and non-profit sectors to identify innovation and differentiation opportunities that further the mission of Urban Strategies and its partners.
