About the role:

Gartner’s Customer Experience platform delivers actionable, objective insights to its clients every day, and we’re seeking a seasoned, forward-thinking senior engineering professional to lead the implementation of our next-generation approach to Platform and Product Engineering.

What you'll do:

The Managing VP, Software Engineering (Digital Products Technology) will lead a team of about 80+ software engineers worldwide, who partner with our Global Product Management team to deliver Gartner research directly to our C-level clients on gartner.com. Our website is the storefront of Gartner’s $4.5 billion Research and Advisory business, and we’re in the midst of a CX transformation that calls for an experienced software development leader who can partner closely with Product, attract and retain top-notch engineering talent, manage and mentor a large global team, and cultivate a no-limits technology mindset that puts the customer at the center. You will lead the Customer Centered transformation of our Digital Products portfolio to increase both efficiency and innovation in a dynamic, growth environment. You will be responsible for growing an already modern technology function into one of the best in the world.

What you'll need:

  • At least 15 years experience with people management as an engineering leader for a geographically distributed team
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills
  • Substantial experience in a consumer/web/interfacing technologies and products
  • Ability to understand challenges in tech management of products in a web facing world and to apply resolutions for the same
  • Substantial experience with modern full-stack technologies such as ReactJS, Java
  • Experience with SQL Databases e.g. Oracle, Postgres and NoSQL Databases e.g. MongoDB and Dynamo DB is required
  • Experience with Mobile Technologies is a must
  • Experience with driving Automation in your SDLC
  • Experience with Cloud environments as well as cloud-based architectures (AWS preferred)
  • A record of success with Agile Scrum team structure and methodology (preferably using SAFE)
  • Experience with CMS Systems, Search Systems, Data Management and Enterprise Portfolio Management
  • Heavy experience with API’s and API based Delivery
  • Understanding of Platforms and Platform oriented development practices

You will have proven experience managing technology in a publishing and internet facing digital product portfolio and understand the key pain points of the business model as well as solutions to these key pain points. You would further need to have used to aid and assist your decision making as well as creating a more customer centric product experience.

  • Someone with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology or related field; Masters Candidates will be preferred
  • Someone with Proven experience in leading cross functional teams to deliver on products or services
  • Coachable and embracing of best practices and feedback as a means of continuous improvement
  • Someone with Proven ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A consistently high achiever marked by perseverance, humility and a positive outlook in the face of challenges
  • Someone with highly customer-centric thought process who has built products/technology in the past keeping the customer use-case in mind
  • Someone with Strong quantitative and qualitative data analytics capabilities and experience: including ability to turn quantitative analysis into actionable recommendations with measurable business impact
  • Someone with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across all levels of the organization, both inside and outside of DPT, including product management, conferences, sales, research, customer success, and customer research
  • Able to communicate effectively with internal clients and technology partners. Influencing and building trust-based, value-added relationships with senior executives.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem solver, curious, organized, growth mindset, client-focused
  • Someone who can ensure excellence in execution and delivery, coupled with being a motivating leader that helps in managing and growing a cross-functional global team

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 184,000 USD - 275,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
