Job Summary (Primary Function)

Area Director (AD) is a field-based leadership position aligned with a specified geography reporting to the National Director, Oncology Clinical Nurse Educator (OCNE) Team. The primary function includes coaching, training, and mentoring the members of the OCNE team, promoting excellence in field execution. The AD is accountable for assigned team performance in alignment with product strategy and oversight of all activities in accordance with current regulatory and health care compliance guidelines.

Essential Functions of the Job: (Key responsibilities)

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of the evolving oncology marketplace and regional influences.
  • Screen, interview, hires, and retains qualified and diverse talent for the OCNE regional team.
  • Employ strong leadership skills, supporting the OCNE in development and maintenance of a strategic territory plan.
  • Evaluate and coach OCNE team members on product, disease state, and the oncology landscape.
  • Lead a team of Oncology Clinical Nurse Educators (OCNEs) to provide on-label, company approved education.
  • Foster a creative, innovative, and supportive workplace to develop a high performing team built on trust, transparency, and strategic purpose.
  • Collaborate on the creation and implementation of OCNE educational and field execution strategies.
  • Collaborate with National Director on the development of annual performance goals and objectives and appropriate measures.
  • Provide career development support of team members, identifying project and internal networking opportunities.
  • Participate in the creation/implementation/maintenance of OCNE field collaborative strategies to ensure compliant partnership across all customer-facing teams (ex. sales, medical, etc.)
  • Responsible for timely completion of administrative duties for self and assigned team. Includes but not limited to the following: review and communication of team engagement reports, expense reports, trainings, etc.
  • Consistently achieves results and holds “self” accountable for performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required, Advanced Nursing Degree preferred.
  • Active RN license or Advanced Practice License (Nurse Practitioner/CNS) required.
  • 10+ years of relevant hematology/oncology experience across clinical practice and pharmaceutical setting.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of disease state and product-related educator experience, with 2+ years of senior level experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of pharmaceutical industry or relevant people management
  • An Oncology specific certification, preferred.
  • Ability to develop strong partnerships and work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to travel at least 50% of the time.
  • Proficiency in excel, word, outlook, OneNote (preferred), and database applications.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
