National Director of Human Resources Operations

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources Operations for Open Sky Education is responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the human resources function for the organization including benefits, compensation, employee relations, training, performance management, workforce effectiveness/organizational development, change management, compliance, employee records, and other workplace initiatives. S/he is the driver of the strategy, support, and implementation of all Human Resources functions including team member relations, benefits, talent management and compliance for OSE and all of its affiliates.

S/he will work closely with the Director of Recruiting, Finance & Payroll, Data & Applications, and schools to provide a wide range of quality Human Resources services to all levels of team members throughout the entire organization.

Strategic Leadership

  • Oversees and leads the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to compensation, benefits and leave; maintenance of the HRIS system, record-keeping and compliance; handbooks; disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
  • Leads, supports and guides the HR team members in all aspects of the HR function
  • Plans, leads, develops and implements annual reviews and makes recommendations to executive management for improvement of the organization's policies, procedures and practices on team member matters
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand and align HR strategies with broader organizational goals and objectives
  • Prior experience leading and supporting a HR System implementation with a strong action orientation and drive for results
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization's compliance
  • Monitors team member satisfaction and attrition levels and develops strategies and team member centered programs and activities to improve engagement and retention
  • Provide oversight and direction to ensure organizational compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all team member matters
  • Communicates changes in the organization's team member policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed
  • Leads executive team and management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the organization's total rewards program
  • Consults with legal counsel as appropriate, or as directed by the COO, on team member matters
  • Develops and maintains a human resource information system that meets the organization's team member information needs
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local Employment Regulations
  • Ensures compliance and claim response for EEOC, FMLA, Code of Conduct, Discrimination, Harassment and other legal/policy issues.
  • Develop and maintain team member handbooks and policies

Team Member, Community, and Vendor Relations

  • Works directly with HR team and organizational leaders to assist them in implementing carrying out their responsibilities on team member matters
  • Recommends, evaluates and participates in staff career development for the organization to provide individuals with professional and personal growth
  • Coaches/mentors HR team members at all levels of the organization; maintains positive relations.
  • Participates on internal and external committees and special projects and seeks additional responsibilities and relationships
  • Develops and delivers written communications and presentations to communicate concepts related to one or more functional HR areas for leaders; develops and conducts training and presentations with the help of Generalists.
  • Investigate complaints or concerns related to workplace issues
  • Administer benefit plans, including establishing eligibility, timely responses to team members regarding coverage questions, assisting with onboarding and orientation, and recording changes to benefits and COBRA processing
  • Manage the Workers Compensation relationship with our vendor
  • Oversee human resources to develop and maintain a team member database and associated records/digital files for each team member
  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure OSE and its affiliated corporations are exciting, supportive, and challenging places of employment where all team members become a part of our team and family
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required

Qualifications

  • Aligns with and agrees to comply with our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.
  • Agrees to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members
  • 10 + years of previous human resources experience including compensation, benefits, compliance, employee relations, training and development
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or graduate degree preferred
  • Previous experience in a multi-state nonprofit organization preferred
  • Experience with UKG and Paycor is a plus
  • Experience managing others and managing a team of direct reports
  • Proven leadership skills with well-rounded experience in human resources topics
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to establish positive relations

This is primarily an on-site role working mostly from our National office located in Waukesha, WI. Some flexibility may be granted for remote work up to 1-2 days a week if/as approved by the COO. Also, some travel will be required on occasion to be on site in our schools mostly currently located in WI and AZ.
