Job Description

Within the framework of creating Ys that are Safe, Relevant and Sustainable, the Director, Thriving Ys is charged with strengthening and growing our movement by providing specialized support to Alliances and local YMCAs through operational improvement and collaboration strategies that build capacity.

The Director, Thriving Ys accomplishes this through the development of trainings, resources, and tools; consulting services including the areas of collaborations, shared services, management agreements and mergers; and assist YMCAs navigating service area disputes and compliance issues.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Organizational Leader certification is required or significant progress with a schedule to complete.
  • Requires 10 or more years progressive experience in operations management in complex non-profit, multi-site organizations and/or organizational consulting.
  • Experience in corrective turn-around of a local YMCA operations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach executives and board volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in managing high-level impact projects.
  • Advanced skills in facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving, conflict resolution and mediation with sensitive, confidential projects.
  • Advanced experience with collecting, analyzing, interpreting and delivering data in reports and presentations.
  • Advanced skill with interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others to achieve objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of groups.
  • Intermediate social and digital strategies skills to effectively communicate, engage, moderate and curate knowledge sharing and networking with and among local Y staff on the Y’s internal platform.
  • Commitment to character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Essential Functions

  • Provide specialized consulting services that will systematically identify and focus on operational improvement strategies for all Ys.
  • Facilitate projects with Service Partners, Alliance Partners, YUSA staff and local YMCAs in assigned disciplines in development and execution of operational improvement or support plans for local YMCAs.
  • Provide education and specialized consulting services focusing on strategic collaborations with the Alliances.
  • Facilitate and mediate resolutions to service area disputes between member associations and YMCAs that are seeking to assume new service area through the dissolution and/or termination of another local YMCAs charter.
  • Provide education and specialized consulting services focusing on new YMCA corporate and branch development.
  • Provide education and specialized consulting services focusing the training and recruitment of interim CEO candidates for YMCAs in a leadership transition.
  • Maintain a unique proprietary database of subject-specific resources, best practices and information to support knowledge management via Y Profile and LINK.
  • Maintain latest trending and up-to-date knowledge of developments in related services in all specialized areas of position and use information and new tools from advanced knowledge to serve the Network Partners.
  • Act as primary point of contact for assigned topic area of Y-USA’s knowledge platform, including development of an engagement plan; consistent and timely review and moderation of community; lead and develop skills of local Y moderators; act on reports/analytics; and oversight of content curation and creation to engage and support users.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Effect On End Results/Strategic Impact

Efficient and effective delivery of resources to local YMCAs in assigned specialty, resulting in a steadily increasing percentage of YMCAs classified as members.
