We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director / Chief Operating Officer (COO) to oversee the departments of operations, sales & marketing, retail, and events for an innovative experiential museum . The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a passion for creating exceptional visitor experiences and a proven track record of driving growth and innovation in a cultural institution or similar environment.
Executive Director / COO Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for all aspects of museum operations, ensuring seamless execution of day-to-day activities.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize efficiency, safety, and guest satisfaction.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement among staff members and volunteers.
- Sales & Marketing Oversight:
- Provide guidance and direction to the sales and marketing team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Review and provide input on sales and marketing strategies, campaigns, and initiatives developed by the department.
- Collaborate with department heads to identify opportunities for revenue generation and audience engagement through sales and marketing efforts.
- Retail Operations:
- Oversee the museum's retail operations, including gift shop management, merchandise selection, inventory control, and sales performance.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the retail experience, increase sales, and enhance profitability.
- Collaborate with vendors, designers, and merchandisers to curate a diverse and appealing product assortment that reflects the museum's mission and themes.
- Events Management Oversight:
- Provide leadership and guidance to the events management team, ensuring the successful planning and execution of special events, exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs.
- Review event proposals and plans, providing input and support as needed to ensure events align with the museum's mission, values, and objectives.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop innovative and engaging event experiences that drive attendance and support the museum's goals.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Arts Management, Museum Studies, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a senior leadership role within the cultural sector, experiential entertainment, hospitality, or a related industry.
- Strong business acumen, with a demonstrated ability to provide strategic direction and oversight for multiple departments.
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of inspiring and motivating staff to achieve high levels of performance and productivity.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners, and community members.
- Passion for creativity, innovation, and experiential storytelling, with a genuine enthusiasm for the museum's mission and objectives.
