Job Summary:

Ice Miller (Firm) is seeking a Practice Group Director (PGD) to oversee the daily operations and strategic initiatives of its Real Estate practice group (Practice Group). The PGD will manage the business and operational aspects of the Practice Group to support the financial performance, talent development and strategic objectives of the Practice Group.

***Salary in the range of $170,000 to $280,000 dependent on experience level and geographical location of the candidate. ***

Essential Job Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Practice Group Leader to set a strategic growth plan that is realistic and achievable for the near and medium terms; set revenue and head count targets and goals; establish definable steps for achievement of such targets and goals; hold practice group accountable for commitments.
  • Collaborate with Practice Group Leader and Firm leadership to establish and refine the long term strategic direction of the Practice Group, including initiatives in hiring, professional development, technology, pricing, and business development.
  • Advise the Practice Group on real estate industry trends, competitive landscape, and market dynamics to identify new business opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Advise the Practice Group’s environmental, energy, and utilities practitioners on competitive landscape, new business and cross-selling opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Practice Group’s existing clients.
  • Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities for the Practice Group by leveraging personal, professional and Firm networks, conducting market research, and prospecting potential clients.
  • Assist Practice Group members to develop and achieve business development goals.
  • Establish and maintain clear and consistent lines of communication with the Practice Group Leader and senior Firm administrative team members.
  • Establish and maintain clear and consistent lines of communication with Practice Group members across offices regarding all aspects of the Practice Group and the Firm.
  • Monitor talent workload and utilization reports in order to identify productivity issues and counsel talent where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Firm administrative team on the development and execution of professional training programs.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in business development, marketing and/or sales roles.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in talent management.
  • Nuanced understanding of real estate market dynamics, industry trends, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities and make informed business decisions.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and contribute to the overall success of the Firm.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the Firm, both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with keen time management skills to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel when necessary to meet with Firm personnel and current and prospective clients and to attend real estate industry events.
  • Prior experience in law firm management is not required.
