Senior Manager, Global Supply Chain

Job Description

This position will be responsible for leading the Electrified Systems Onboard Charging, Emotor, Inverter, Pack Components and Off Board Charging Supply Chain Team which is critical to the EV revolution. The candidate can expect to interact with supplier contacts globally and lead a team of 30+ individuals located in North America, China and Europe. The candidate will also interact with internal Ford personnel in North America, Europe, and China, India, as well as CAF (Ford/Changan joint venture) and Ford Otosan. This position manages $3B spend (and growing), 35 commodities and 60+ major suppliers.

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Commodities (Global for EV, HEV and PHEV): Onboard Chargers, DCDCs, Onboard Generators, Combo Units, Externally Purchased Emotors, Internally produced Emotor Components (Rotor/Stator/Esteel/Slot Liners/Thermistors), Inverters, Internally Produced Inverter Components (Power Modules, PCBA, Busbars, Casings, Capacitors, Seals), Alternators, Starters, Battery Packs, Blankets and Separators, Mica, Cooling Lines, Cooling Plates, Pressure Release Valves, BECM (Battery Electronic Control Modules), BECs, Rare Earth Magnets, Wallbox Chargers, Charging cords, Charging Adapters, Combiner boxes, and Ultracapacitors.
  • Future model turnover expected to grow significantly allowing significant opportunity for professional growth and visibility.
  • Lead team of 20 to 30 buyers to source commodities on time, with quality and satisfy program targets. 50% of team in North America, 25% in UK, 25% in China.


Success in position looks like…

Effective Sourcing: Lead team to source programs on time, below target, with deep understand of cost drivers and opportunities. Forward thinking to what the commodity base needs to look like now, near and far and enabling sourcing events to achieve that.

Quiet Launch and Supply: Source quality suppliers and continuously manage team to monitor and improve quality performance. Immediately address quality events and hold supplier accountable to address and fix any issues and prevent them from happening in the future

No Premium Cost: Aggressively attack current and future model costs and vehicle productivity. Continuously question and lead team to fact based cost estimates and ensure the supply base can achieve supplier and Ford profitability needs. Track/Monitor, enable and ideate ways to achieve annual savings goals.

Best in Class Team: Develop, coach and enable team to own their commodities and careers at Ford

Other Responsibilities that enable above:

Develop supplier and commodity long term holistic strategies to optimize relationship, costs and quality. Will include variety of ‘Make vs Buy’ studies/opportunities as Ford continues to vertically integrate.

Understand physicals of the parts, supplier costs, cost estimates, and cost gaps to estimates.

Coach and lead escalations to drive for data transparency from the supply base to support fact based negotiations to deliver cost targets.

Primary focus is on effectively negotiating to achieve Best Cost at Job 1 and drive TVM reductions to eliminate cost gaps.

Lead team to develop sourcing strategies, issue/analyze RFQs, supplier negotiation/selection, execute Sourcing Contracts.

Provide support to India PO execution Buying Team.

Lead global counterparts (Europe and China) to develop and maintain commodity strategy.

Treat suppliers with respect while holding them accountable for all aspects of delivery (product, quotes, cost, Q1 scores, etc).

Communicate and establish strong relationships with ES Engineering counterparts to understand their needs and needs of the programs.

Work closely with ES Engineering team to drive and continue to develop commodity sourcing strategies.

Willingness to travel as required, Hybrid position if located in Metro Detroit areas, 3 days in office expected.

Qualifications

You'll have..

  • 10 years management experience and expertise in electronics or applicable commodities commodities.
  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain or related field.

  • Creative thinker/problem solver and ability to consider multiple points of view (flexibility)
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills with ability to create leverage.
  • Good planning skills and ability to stay organized while managing multiple components and programs.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Curiosity and drive to understand what the competition is doing in this product space.
  • Understanding and sensitivity to political, economic and cultural differences.
