Assistant Project Manager (Commercial Building Construction)

Job Duties:

  • Prepare technical plans, specifications, design elements, and reports specific to the construction of commercial building structures.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate assigned engineering work.
  • Interpret design/drawings for crafts installing material, identify problems or discrepancies and report them to supervisor/superintendent for appropriate action.
  • Perform technical and design calculations.
  • Research and recommend solutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors.
  • Verify that all completed work complies with applicable codes, drawings, and specifications.
  • Prepare and disseminate all required project documentation records, such as status reports, meeting minutes, submittals, punch lists, sketches of work already completed, material requirement calculations, etc.
  • Provide technical support and direction of project material control functions, including implementation and operation of maintenance program.
  • Research and prepare field design change requests to resolve engineering design problems.
  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, estimates, etc.
  • Provide necessary building control lines and elevations for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials.
  • Perform structural and design analysis, cost estimation, and scheduling.
  • Analyze long range plans, survey reports, maps, and other data to plan and design projects.
  • Prepare cost estimates for materials, equipment, or labor to determine a project's economic feasibility.
  • Collect and track all potential cost changes on a project and report to the Project Manager with findings to ensure accurate cost perspective of the project.
  • Assist project engineers, superintendents, etc. with field operations.
  • Coordinate with safety personnel on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist the Project Manager in the buy-out process of subcontracts and purchase orders and ensure proper tracking.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing monthly progress billings for submission to the Owner and monitor owner response to ensure timely receipt of payments and satisfactory cash flow for the project.
  • Ensure all submittals are properly expedited to prevent project delays.
  • Ensure proper and timely project closeout including submission of all close-out documents, warranties, releases, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related Engineering field.
  • 3 years' experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Understanding of technical plans, specifications, design elements and reports specific to construction of commercial building structures.
  • Experience with structural and design analysis.
  • Experience with cost estimating.
  • Experience in pre-project planning by preparing construction schedules, submittal schedules, meeting schedules, etc.
  • Applicants must be willing to travel to and work at various unanticipated project sites throughout Allegheny County, PA.
