Position Summary

The Controller is in charge all areas related to accounting and finance. This includes, but is not limited to, oversite of general accounting, business and financial reporting, financial statement production, financial forecasting, budget management, tax administration, financial system management, business licensing, insurance management, and 401k management.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Hires and manages direct and indirect reports within the Accounting Department to build a high performing team. Assigns and allocates work, sets priorities and deadlines. Resolves personnel issues, guides, and advises personnel in the performance of their work. Completes performance evaluations and makes recommendations on wages and promotions.
  • Oversees creation and updates for all policies and procedures required to effectively manage all areas of responsibility.
  • Independently manages all budget planning and execution:
  • Drives annual process and coordinates input from all required participants.
  • Provides financial expertise during the business/budget planning process.
  • Ensures monthly and quarterly reporting is performed to monitor budget objectives.
  • Oversees and directly contributes to detailed analysis of budget variances.
  • Actively drives all departments to meet budget objectives.
  • Conceives and drives corrective actions to meet budget objectives.


  • Oversees and independently drives all major accounting and finance processes, including but not limited to:
  • Oversees quality and correctness of all accounting and finance activities.
  • Maintains a strong system of financial processes and controls to ensure correctness and compliance.
  • Generates all monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc financial reporting.
  • Maintains financial forecasting model on an ongoing basis.
  • Oversees employee expense reimbursements, including enforcement of related policies.
  • Files all federal, state tax, and local filings, in compliance for all relevant tax jurisdictions.
  • Oversees disbursements in accounts payable and payroll.
  • Manages AR collections and past due account activity.
  • Carefully administers cash management.
  • Administers fixed asset and inventory reporting and management.
  • Manages audits and satisfies auditor requirements.
  • Ensures proper entry of all journal entries.
  • Works independently with external accounting partner for complicated accounting or tax issues.
  • Manages schedule for accounting monthly and annual close processes and other recurring processes.
  • Creates and analyzes balance sheets and income statements and actual versus budget reports. Ensures departments receive and understand their monthly departmental budget-versus-actual statements.
  • Performs ad-hoc analysis of financial metrics and presents them to upper management, as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with debt covenants.
  • Administers key processes for board meetings by overseeing:
  • Schedule for preparation meetings and content review meetings.
  • Board meeting calendar and scheduling of all participants.
  • Logistics for meetings.
  • Creation of financial statistics and slides.
  • Analysis of budget variances.
  • Collation of all data, slides, and documents for meetings.
  • Note taking, record keeping, and required communications.
  • Directs and oversees maintenance of the financial system.
  • Oversees administration of ownership documentation, balances, and distributions.
  • Is the primary manager of relationships and processes related to banking and credit card processing.
  • Partners with HR and Sales to oversee sales compensation structure and deliver accurate, timely commission and bonus calculations.
  • Coordinates annual renewal of business insurance policies.
  • Manages vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Oversee 401(k) plan administration.
  • Responsible for business registration and licensing in all required jurisdictions.
  • Remains knowledgeable of all legislation that may impact our financial practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


What You’ll Bring to Us

Experience / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with a minimum of seven years accounting or finance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have strong knowledge of general accounting principles, GAAP, producing financial statements, and overall financial management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead financial management projects.
  • Prefer work experience in an organization that was a medical provider.
  • Prior experience for a national or regional accounting firm is a plus.
  • Strong PC skills including high level of skill in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to take high level direction and work independently to achieve objectives.
  • Must have the ability to lead and coach others as well as the ability to facilitate and negotiate.
  • Must have strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Strong presentation skills.
  • Must possess the ability to organize and prioritize work while meeting deadlines. Must be able to lead and manage projects effectively.
  • Ability to work with others from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures and at all levels within the organization.

Additional Necessities

General office environment that will include frequent or continuous periods of talking, sitting, fingering, repetitive motions of the hands/wrists, reaching, grasping, and handling. This position also requires occasional bending, squatting, standing, and walking. Pushing, pulling lifting, and carrying of up to 10 lbs. is required on an occasional basis. Good general vision and hearing are needed.
