Job Description

The Audience & Marketing Manager participates in the strategic development and execution of innovative, data-driven audience growth and marketing campaigns. They will sit within the Audience Strategy & Growth team and focus on expanding and diversifying TED’s audiences at the top-of-funnel, nurturing their engagement and identifying ways to build their loyalty. They’ll work closely with teams across media, events and business units to recommend and execute marketing strategies that drive revenue for TED.

Key aspects of this work involve developing and executing campaigns and content strategies to drive new users to TED initiatives and products — including newsletters, podcasts, events, Membership, TED.com and more. They’ll utilize existing go-to marketing tools like email, Web banners, and social media, while also brainstorming new and exciting ways to best reach TED’s target audiences. Beyond discovery and awareness, this role will work closely with initiative stakeholders to identify ways to deepen audience loyalty and retention, and to nurture strategies that support conversion goals. The Audience & Marketing Manager will also support and build TED’s culture of data-informed decision-making, helping to lead org-wide audience research and data projects, create structures around marketing performance reports and translate data into actionable insights.

Role & Responsibilities

Audience & Marketing Strategy

  • Develop execute strategies to drive awareness and engagement with key TED initiatives, not limited to newsletters, podcasts, events, and Membership.
  • Create, socialize and implement comprehensive multi-channel campaign briefs optimized for audience growth
  • Work with cross-departmental stakeholders and product owners to develop audience strategies that support goals across awareness, engagement, retention and conversion
  • Identify ways to tap into external brands, content creators and industry leaders as a way to grow priority audience segments for TED
  • Support TED’s larger brand and marketing goals by creating and maintaining unified and cohesive approaches across all initiatives
  • Provide strategic guidance and editorial oversight for copywriters, designers and product teams to optimize campaigns to meet TED’s marketing goals
  • Develop and manage audience lists that serve email marketing campaigns Data + Insights Analyze campaign performance, identify takeaways and insights, uncover areas of improvement and socialize findings with stakeholders across the org
  • Utilize analytics, survey feedback and competitive insights to optimize marketing across channel, messaging and creative
  • Support the creation and refinement of data-backed audience personas
  • Partner with TED’s Tech team to develop and hone reporting structures
  • Support the development and execution of brand and audience studies
  • Inform organizational efforts to organize and systemize audience data
  • Support tracking infrastructure across channels ensuring accurate and compliant data collection and reporting (UTMs, Chartable pixels, etc) Operations & Project Management
  • Oversee and help to manage the team’s project roadmaps, campaign deliverables and deadlines
  • Work closely with Brand Creative team and designers to convey asset requirements, campaign approaches and timelines
  • Provide copywriting and copyediting support where necessary
  • Serve as additional support on ad building across Web and newsletters
  • Manage relationships and nurture collaborations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure campaign, team and organizational success

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in developing and executing marketing strategies
  • Experience developing comprehensive, multi-channel marketing strategies aligned with org goals
  • Experience in improving user acquisition and engagement metrics
  • Understanding of how to target and grow specific audience segments.
  • Experience with various digital marketing tools (i.e. SailThru, Google Ads), project management software (i.e. AirTable), and graphics/creative platforms (i.e. Canva)
  • Experience creating and executing SEO and SEM strategies designed to drive traffic, Web engagement and brand relevance
  • Experience in establishing and nurturing strategic relationships with content creators, brands and industry leaders.
  • Ability to analyze campaign performance, derive insights and translate data into actionable strategies.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams, including copywriters, designers, product managers, analysts, producers and business leads.
  • Solid project management skills with the ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional partners, prioritize high impact activities and keep complex projects moving forward.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; comfortable presenting strategies and insights to stakeholders
  • Experience in allocating resources effectively across various marketing initiatives
