Job Summary

The Associate Director for Student Success and Support is a vital member of the student support team for the students on the East Falls campus. The Associate Director provides front-line, non-clinical case coordination, and support for students identified by the Academic Success Center and/or Dean of Students navigating a range of academic, personal, family, and other challenging situations impeding their academic success. The Associate Director works directly with the Academic Success Center and Dean of Students as well as collaborates with campus partners (e.g., offices including, but not limited to, Athletics, Residential Life, Public Safety, Student Counseling Center (SCS), Student Health Services (SHS), Accessibility Services, and Registrar) to help implement resources and support for students on the East Falls campus. This includes connecting students to existing resources and providing 1:1 support and guidance to students who are experiencing academic or personal challenges that impact their learning and academic success. Additionally, this person will work with Academic Success Center, Program Directors, and Division of Student Life on the development and implementation of the summer Bridge program.

Essential Functions

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. (Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Provides front-line, non-clinical coordination, and support for students, identified by the Academic Success Center and/or Dean of Students, navigating a range of academic, personal, family, academic, and other challenging situations that are impacting their learning and academic success.
  • Works with Executive Director of Academic Success Center, Dean of Students and campus partners to help implement resources and support mechanisms to students.
  • Serves as member of the Student Intervention Team (SIT) and Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator to provide academic and non-academic accommodations for students on the East Falls campus.
  • Provide direct communication and follow-up, as appropriate, with selected faculty regarding student academic performance and/or personal concerns
  • Collaborate to develop printed and online educational resources for students, faculty, and staff about student support resources within the Academic Success Center and Division of Student Life.
  • Assist Academic Success Center, Program Directors and Division of Student Life in the implementation and management of the Summer Bridge program.
  • Document all information and communication in appropriate database (Starfish, Degree Works, Maxient)
  • Work as a collaborative member of the Academic Success Center team in student retention and success
  • Participate in all Academic Success Center campus events & retention initiatives
  • Support the mission of the Academic Success Center and student success

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

  • Demonstrated experience and creativity in managing difficult and complex situations involving students, families, staff, and faculty.
  • Knowledge of contemporary principles/practices in student development, multicultural competence, and case management.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to tactfully resolve problems and diffuse emotional situations.
  • Knowledge in areas of crisis and risk management, behavioral intervention, and community standards in a higher education environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling highly confidential information and work with confidential and time sensitive materials.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree required in higher education, social work or related field preferred

AND

Experience:

  • Three to Five years’ experience working in academic or student life with undergraduate students preferred.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and its applications, and common issues and trends for college students case management models.
  • Evidence of an effective leadership style, and a background demonstrating success in working with student, faculty, administrators, and family.
  • Experience working in a Bridge Program or management position within a team.
