The Opportunity with NRC


We are looking for a Director of Asset Management & Maintenance to join our team in Boston, MA, USA.


As the Asset Management & Maintenance Director, you will lead a team of specialists, with the goal of providing transit and railroad agencies with sustainable outcomes, tailored to meet the unique requirements of their asset system. To be successful, you will have an in-depth understanding of the wider railroad and/or transit system which enables you to communicate effectively, and with confidence about industry best practices.


You will be able to demonstrate an ability to analyze complex asset and organizational problems, and lead the creation of client focused solutions, reflective of their specific needs by using your depth of industry experience, while having Knowledge of managing assets throughout their full lifecycle and being able to demonstrate an ability to apply tools and techniques which enable asset life to be maximized whilst maintaining appropriate levels of safe asset performance is required.


Key Accountabilities


  • Establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Leading a team of asset management and maintenance professionals to deliver strategic and practical advisory services to our existing and future clients.
  • Acting as a professional leader, providing technical and non-technical mentorship to others which supports personal and professional development.
  • Offering guidance on effective strategies for asset management, maintenance, and minimizing risks in the industry.
  • Evaluating and assessing asset management and maintenance maturity and developing recommendations to improve system safety, performance, and integrity.
  • Leading the development and production of asset management policies, strategies, and processes aligned with our clients' transit/railroad system needs.
  • Offering guidance throughout the asset management lifecycle to enhance the longevity of assets, drawing on industry-recommended approaches.
  • Supporting clients in developing asset management plans that incorporate maintenance, renewal, and investment plans aligned to corporate objectives.
  • Supporting clients in recognizing areas for improvement in technical and business processes and preparing documentation to justify investment proposals.
  • Managing NRC contracts and projects in accordance with NRC Operating Procedure and governance requirements.
  • Developing reports, standards, and procedures tailored to specific client needs.
  • Assisting in the NRC's technical briefing process to ensure employees stay informed about current local and international standards.
  • Acting as a technical writer and/or reviewer for NRC bid documents to ensure competitiveness in the North American market.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for asset management and maintenance activities in North America.


Job Skills, Experience & Qualifications


To be successful in this role, you should have:


  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience and membership with a relevant professional body, Professional Engineer (PE)/Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Membership of a recognized professional body such as PWI, IAM, ICE, IMechE, IRSE, or U.S. equivalent.
  • A broad understanding of railroad asset management and maintenance practices.
  • Experience leading teams of experts to successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing and influencing railway system performance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in effectively communicating with individuals across various levels within an organization.
  • An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques.
  • Experience in undertaking engineering assurance activities, including competence assessment.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMS) such as Ellipse, Trapeze, Maximo.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong focus on driving business growth and expertise in financial analysis.


Desirable


  • Fellow of a relevant Engineering Institution or equivalent.
  • Formal Accident/Incident investigation experience.
  • Experience using LEAN problem-solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55001 series.
