Job Description

A nonprofit, unincorporated association in the property and casualty auto insurance industry is seeking an Executive Director. This position requires a blend of leadership, strategic vision and operational management skills. The Executive Director is the highest-ranking position and responsible for all aspects of the association’s day-to-day activities. The Executive Director works with the board of directors and standing committees to formulate and implement policies, procedures and strategic plans. The successful candidate will be accountable for developing and administering the annual budget, financial systems, human resources, information technology and other administrative matters. The Executive Director will be an ambassador for the organization with the public, press, legislature, association members and other stakeholders. Solid business acumen, diplomacy, tact and wisdom are critical to this highly visible role. This is a retained search.

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategy and long-term direction of the association.
  • Engage with regulators and the Department of Insurance and Financial Services to ensure compliance with state laws.
  • Create and recommend an annual budget for board approval and sensibly manage the organization’s resources within those budget guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Executive Director to manage the organization’s financial and human resources according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that adhere to current laws and regulations.
  • Sponsor projects for the operation of the association, including audit, actuarial and investment projects.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for the association with the public, press, legislature, association members and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of property and casualty insurance industry experience with an emphasis on automobile products (personal injury protection and no-fault policies, etc.)
  • Executive leadership experience
  • Proficiency in Michigan’s insurance system’s state-specific complexities and legislative history
  • Experience presenting to the legislature, media and public in a spokesperson capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, actuarial science, law, finance or a related field; master’s degree (preferred)
