SUMMARY: Provides guidance and consultation to foster caregivers. Assesses needs of the birth family and foster family to promote healthy development and growth in all life domains. Works therapeutically with birth and foster families to attain permanency for sibling groups.

Designs, arranges, coordinates, and documents programs services and trainings for birth families, sibling groups and foster caregivers. Conducts assessments, schedules/coordinates visitation and engage birth families, sibling groups and foster caregivers in activities that lead to a successful outcomes for the children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Gathers information and conducts needs assessment of birth families’ strengths and weaknesses to develop appropriate goals and time frames for service plans.
  • Ensure the children’s needs are met through the coordination of services with all stakeholders including the State Child Welfare Agency, physicians, dentists, school therapists, and/or others.
  • Ensure compliance with State regulations through the preparation and maintenance of accurate records and reports on outcomes for children and their families.
  • Communicates and involves birth parents as much as possible regarding their children's progress, concerns, major decisions, changes in services and placement.
  • Provides support to the foster parent in caring for the children.
  • Intervenes therapeutically with birth and foster families to change attitudes, beliefs and behaviors to improve level of functioning and coping skills.
  • Facilitates therapeutic visitation of birth families and sibling groups.
  • Develops visitation schedule and identifies specific parenting skills to address during therapeutic family and/ or sibling visits as specified in the treatment and service plan.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of birth parents' skills including ability to communicate, interact, play, discipline and meet children' needs individually and as a sibling group.
  • Supports birth parent's strengths and addresses areas of weakness through role modeling, direct communication, teaching and advocacy.
  • Makes regular monthly contact with birth parents. Aggressively outreaches and attempts to engage birth parents who are uninvolved in services on a regular basis.
  • Provides weekly visits the first 60 days and twice a month with at least one contact in the foster home.
  • Provides training support, and guidance to foster families in implementing the treatment plan and service plan for the child.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: BSW or BA in social work or related human services field with three years experience in child welfare or related human services field. Master's degree in social work or other related human services field with two years of experience in child welfare or related human services field preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Child Protection Certification and/or licensing as required by state or contract. LSWA or LGSW required by Maryland Only.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver's license in state employed, appropriate insurance and reliable car.
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must submit to and pass random drug tests during employment.
  • Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
  • Must complete 40 hours of staff development annually.
  • Must obtain the following automobile insurance coverage within two weeks of employment; proof of which must be submitted to Corporate Human Resources via a copy of your auto insurance declaration page which reflects auto policy expiration date, that you are an insured driver on the policy and that you carry the state mandated insurance listed below:
  • Georgia:

General Liability insurance with the following limits:

  • $100,000 per claim, $300,000 per incident.
  • Florida:

Bodily Liability insurance in the amount of:

  • $100,000 per claim, $300,000 per incident.
  • Maryland:
  • $500,000 combined single occurrence.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CULTURAL COMPETENCY: Ability to relate, understand, accept and interact in a culturally sensitive manner.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, co-workers, managers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and finger to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, listen and occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
