Overview


In partnership with the President and CEO, the Executive Vice President will drive innovation aligned to the corporate strategy, generating the resources needed for impact, identifying the most important priorities and strategies producing development results that improve people’s lives. The Executive VP will lead the teams that foster organizational growth and impactful partnerships, drives learning and innovation, and engage audiences globally.


The Executive VP will lead significant functions within the organization and be charged with determining what is achieving greatest impact against Counterpart’s global mission and how to accelerate opportunities for new partnerships and revenue. Departments this position will oversee and provide guidance are Program Delivery; Technical Delivery and Growth; Communications; and Strategy. The Executive VP is a member of the Executive Leadership Team, playing a crucial role in steering the organization toward its strategic goals and interacts regularly with Counterpart’s Board.

The ideal candidate will come with a track record of success in leading global strategy, driving new and diversifying revenue, change management, building authentic relationships with diverse, global constituents, inspiring others to rally around a vision and strategy, and effectively communicating with and listening to constituents. This Executive VP will build on a strong foundation of Counterpart’s values and successful impact to date and carry the best of the organization’s history forward as they work alongside others to chart an ambitious and meaningful path for years to come.


Responsibilities


  • Regularly engage with the Counterpart Board of Directors and participate in essential business meetings, including Board meetings.
  • Oversee and evaluate company revenue, propose strategies for revenue growth, and review budgets and financial reports.
  • Ensure all department adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the CEO regarding factors influencing business performance.
  • Oversee and assess company partnerships and relationships and play a leadership role in developing relationships with strategic audiences, clients, and partners.
  • Spearhead Counterpart’s annual planning process and establish annual performance objectives aligned with the strategic plan for execution by office vice presidents.
  • Consult with the community, donors, and stakeholders to assess the market and ensure Counterpart is industry leading and adapting as needed to change.
  • Adapt the 5-year strategy as needed, analyzing market and operational environments to suggest new directions or changes.
  • Develop and oversee a framework for shepherding Counterpart’s thought leadership, program generated evidence, and innovations toward greater program impact and greater results across the international development sector.
  • Oversee Counterpart’s branding, external positioning, materials development, website and social media presence, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Oversee the development of a new business pipeline that draws on and builds current and future competencies in alignment with the strategy and identifies sufficient qualified opportunities and deliver winning proposals to meet annual revenue targets.
  • Monitor trends in international development to ensure impactful, competitive positioning and continued relevance.
  • Other duties as needed.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in relevant field or minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience with substantial experience in international development.
  • Demonstrated senior level experience with strategic and annual planning and ability to translate strategy into action and impact.
  • Demonstrated senior level experience with revenue generation, organizational development, stakeholder engagement, and organizational transformation.
  • Proven track record of expanding organizations into new impact areas and new markets and such as, major donors, USAID, USDA, the Department of State, or other bilateral donors.
  • Experience with strategic partnerships including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Extensive experience managing large, global teams. The Executive VP will set clear organizational priorities and have a proven track record in talent management and staff development/mentorship. This individual must also have first-rate analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills to support and facilitate delegated decision-making across Counterpart.
  • Strong strategic planning capabilities.
  • Exceptional knowledge of global trends in international development.
  • Exceptional communications skills, including oral and written communications; diplomacy in communicating with broad and diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to set clear and challenging goals while committing the organization to improved performance, tenacious and accountable in driving results.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly and lead others through complex situations.
  • You must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.


The salary range for this position is $214,643-$343,428 annually.
