Location: Remote (WFH) within the United States. For tax and compliance purposes, this role is open to candidates that will work or reside in the following states: AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, LA, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, TX, VA, WA, WI, WY.

The Company

Paleovalley is a health-conscious snack and supplement company. We are committed to making delicious, high-quality products that do not cut corners. We source from organic farmers using regenerative agricultural practices. Our goal is to support our customers with better alternatives to the health-damaging junk foods and synthetic supplements lining the grocery store shelves.

Our sister company, Wild Pastures, is on a mission to transform the meat industry. We deliver 100% grass fed, pasture-raised, environmentally-regenerative beef, chicken and pork and sustainably caught, wild seafood directly to our customers’ doors. We have incredibly high standards for our meat – all being raised in the USA by small-scale family farmers on lush pastures free from any and all chemicals.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and contribute to our company’s growth and profitability. The CFO will direct and oversee the financial activities of the corporation, direct the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth. Reporting directly to the COO and working closely with the CEO, the CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, driving financial strategy, and ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting. The CFO will have ultimate responsibility for all fiscal functions of a division and serves as a key member of the executive leadership team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance, a deep understanding of the e-commerce and CPG sectors, and a proven track record of strategic leadership.

Financial Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives and growth goals
  • Lead the financial planning and budgeting processes, providing forecasts, financial modeling, and strategic recommendations to the executive team
  • Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement, cost reduction, and overall financial performance improvement

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including accounting, financial reporting, tax (including sales tax), treasury, and risk management
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses for the executive team, board of directors, and investors and funders
  • Manage the company’s capital structure, including equity, debt, and working capital
  • Develop and maintain relationships with investors, banks, and other financial institutions

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate financial, operational, and market risks
  • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements

Strategic Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Provide financial leadership and strategic guidance to the executive team and across the organization
  • Collaborate with other departments to drive financial performance and support business initiatives
  • Act as a key advisor to the CEO, COO, and board of directors on financial and strategic matters

Financial Analysis and Decision Support:

  • Conduct financial analysis to support business decisions, including investment opportunities, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic initiatives
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support business growth and operational efficiency
  • Evaluate and manage financial risks associated with new projects and business ventures

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to finance team members
  • Ensure the finance team has the skills and resources needed to support the company’s growth and financial objectives

Technology and Systems Integration:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and technologies to support efficient financial management
  • Ensure financial systems are integrated with other business systems for accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Stay updated on financial technology trends and innovations to enhance financial operations

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for supervising and developing the finance team, including employees and contracted service providers.

Competencies

  • Strong financial acumen with expertise in financial planning, analysis, and reporting
  • Proven track record in fundraising, capital management, and investor relations
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams
  • Ability to think strategically and align financial strategies with business goals
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficiency in financial systems, ERP software, and other relevant technologies
  • Deep understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and risk management

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior financial leadership role

Preferred Education & Experience

  • MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced qualifications preferred
  • Experience in the e-commerce, CPG, or agricultural meat industry is highly desirable

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies that weigh up to 20 pounds, and to bend and stand as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position during regular business hours in the employee’s timezone. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Up to 5% travel. Some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.
