Position Summary:

  • Plans, directs and coordinates all leadership activities related to the strategic utilization of human resources, including drivers, fleet services, operations, sales and administrative staff. 
  • Oversees all human resources functions and processes, including recruitment, compensation, educational programs, performance management, regulatory and statutory compliance, and company policies and employee handbooks.
  • Serves as an advisory member of the executive team, supporting strategic planning, employee communications, teambuilding and benefits administration.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer compensation, employee benefits, and Performance Management and measurement systems.
  • Oversee the company’s Communication Plan to keep employees current on all matters related to safety, education and training, community service opportunities and company highlights.
  • Administer the company’s CliftonStrengths Team Coaching program.
  • Expand the Employee Wellness Program
  • Maintain records and compile reporting related to Human Resources activity.
  • Advise managers on organizational policy matters such as equal employment, harassment, reasonable suspicion, hostile work environments and environmental health and safety.
  • Support all recruiting activity: pipeline reporting and tracking; update job boards; participate in industry job fairs; coordinate drug and background screening with the Director, Employee Services; maintain interview schedules with line managers and supervisors; offer letters; work directly with Marketing on digital campaigns.
  • Actively engage in all disciplinary matters on an as-needed basis
  • Support the development of a comprehensive compensation strategy including base rates and variable performance incentives
  • Coordinate benefits enrollment for new hires, and annual open enrollment process
  • Working with the Executive Vice President and General Counsel, manage all company benefits (health, disability, 401k).
  • Advise on FMLA, disability, workers comp and unemployment claim activity
  • Administer leave, payroll garnishments and other employee transactions as required
  • Meet with employees as needed to answer questions and clarify current policies and programs



Required Knowledge, Skills and Duties:

The Gray Line Tennessee Human Resources Director will be required to multi-task, and will be expected to possess knowledge and ability in the following areas:

  • Extensive knowledge of employment codes, rules and regulations
  • Familiarity with various software tools related to payroll, human resources management, and general office administration, workflow management and communication
  • Effective and professional communication in a variety of settings, including interaction with staff, drivers, mechanics, management, regulatory and insurance representatives, and customers
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, especially those caused by demanding or challenging customers (internal and external), in a professional manner
  • Available to work flexible hours as dictated by the specific demands of the position
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to plan, assign and direct the work of staff as appropriate
  • Understand and embrace the company’s culture of Safety, Quality, Customer Service, Education, Community, Accountability and Respect


Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Employee Relations or related study; advanced degree preferred
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience; transportation or transportation services experience preferred
  • Must work independently within the scope of established policies and procedures
  • Must be able to follow written and oral communications as required and express concepts and ideas clearly and effectively in oral and written forms
  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English in order to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, law enforcement, emergency personnel and the general public
  • Prior manager or director level leadership experience
  • Availability to work in an office environment on a regular basis (this is not a remote or hybrid position)
