Introduction

The Director of Employee Relations is tasked with nurturing and improving positive employee relations across our workforce. This role supports a portfolio of hotels in the Western United States, including California, Oregon, Arizona, and Colorado. The Director plays a key role in promoting a harmonious work environment and ensuring the company's compliance with employment laws and regulations. Acting as a trusted advisor to both employees and management, the Director provides guidance, support, and expertise in employee relations. This position reports to the Senior Vice President of People, Culture, and Workplace Initiatives.


Role And Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement employee relations strategies, policies, and programs that align with the organization's goals and values.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee grievances, complaints, and concerns, ensuring timely resolution in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, ensuring fairness and compliance with legal requirements.
  • Advise and train managers and supervisors on employee relations issues, including performance management, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel to ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations, assisting with any related legal matters as needed.
  • Proactively identify potential employee relations issues and create strategies to prevent or mitigate them.
  • Facilitate and participate in employee relations training programs, workshops, and meetings to promote understanding and awareness of company policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing advice and training to managers and supervisors on best practices for employee relations, including managing supervisor challenges and associate relations; develop additional training as needed.
  • Conduct frequent visits to hotels to address employee grievances and carry out thorough, unbiased investigations.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and changes in employment laws to ensure the organization remains compliant and maintains a competitive employee relations strategy.


Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in Human Resources or Hospitality preferred.
  • HR certification required.
  • Experience in the hospitality (preferably hotels) or other industry with large hourly employee population required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of California and federal laws concerning labor relations.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial and/or confrontational situations.
  • Ability to travel to hotels throughout the region as needed for investigations.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.


This person will be remote and based out of California. The Director of Employee Relations must be able to travel regularly to hotels throughout the region.


Compensation Range DOE: $120,000- $150,000
