Managing Director of Partnerships and Development

The Managing Director of Partnerships and Development is responsible for fostering relationships and creating opportunities to support the Colorado Health Institute (CHI). This position requires advanced skills in developing funding strategies and ensuring CHI possesses the knowledge, relationships, and systems necessary for sustainable and strategic business growth that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

The Managing Director of Partnerships and Development leads the planning and execution of revenue-generating and grant-seeking activities, formulates and executes funding strategies, and manages major contract development and grant proposals to achieve financial objectives.

This role reports to the CEO and is part of the senior leadership team.

Responsibilities

Establish and support organizational partnership strategy.

Create, nurture, and expand strong relationships with a diverse set of public and private agencies, organizations, and funders with an interest in health and well-being.

  • Work with existing and new partners, identifying shared goals, values, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Strengthen CHI’s value proposition and collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to broaden organizational expertise when needed.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to evaluate and ensure CHI’s projects, marketing, and communications align with and enhance its value.

Cultivate mission-focused business development opportunities.

  • Align CHI’s business development activities with its strategic plan and mission-driven focus.
  • Identify new or existing partners, markets, and revenue streams to enhance CHI’s position as a public health institute through long-term, multi-year projects and activities.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate best practices for making decisions about contracts and grants to pursue. Support project teams in evaluating opportunities.
  • Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to establish financial models and annual revenue goals.

Manage proposal development operations.

  • Increase the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of CHI’s proposal development and submission processes.
  • Direct CHI’s proposal and business development efforts. Advise and oversee team members dedicated to this work
  • Ensure that proposals comply with the requirements and guidelines specified by the funder. Conduct thorough reviews to eliminate errors and inconsistencies and ensure overall quality
  • Support financial and project teams to develop accurate cost estimates, pricing strategies, and budgeting details.

Support organizational growth.

  • Work with the senior leadership team and CEO to implement CHI’s strategic plan, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI-B) goals.
  • Establish annual goals with quarterly milestones to advance CHI’s mission.
  • Support team members and advance organizational goals by leading with cultural competence, humility, and responsiveness through personal actions and actively supporting and cultivating culturally responsive leadership across the organization
  • Assist in strategic development and execution of CHI’s short- and long-range planning and programmatic activities
  • Support CEO in building and maintaining strong relationships with public and private organizations and individuals.
  • Ensure all team members understand the organization’s approach to growth and sustainability.
  • Maintain and share professional knowledge through education, networking, events, and presentations
  • Develop the proposal and business development knowledge and skills of fellow team members using empathy, coaching, skill-building, and mentoring techniques.
  • Support internal professional development and manage employment issues as needed

Requirements

  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the Colorado Health Institute
  • Proven track record of securing state and federal grants and contracts.
  • Experience developing and executing local and national philanthropic and donor partnerships and earned revenue strategies
  • Knowledge of CHI’s skills and service offerings
  • In-depth proposal development expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic vision that aligns with a nonprofit organization's mission and goals
  • Proven track record of achieving measurable financial results and driving organizational success
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with cultural competence, humility, and responsiveness, fostering an inclusive team culture
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency is not required but is preferred
  • CHI operates in a hybrid work environment with a two day a week in-office policy

Benefits

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $140,000 to $190,000 per year.

Individuals are not typically hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation determinations are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation and by considering unique skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and organizational needs.

CHI offers an excellent compensation package and wide-ranging professional growth and development opportunities. Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefit programs are available, as is a 401(k)-retirement plan with 7% match. CHI provides monthly transportation and technology stipends and an unlimited paid time off program. Eligibility for all benefit programs is defined by the applicable plan document.
