Direct message the job poster from Rally NC

North Carolina is home to over 560,000 college students across over 100 college campuses, including 10 HBCUs. Young voters have the numbers and the power to shape the future of our state through leadership in the electoral process. And in a state like North Carolina, even a small increase in student voter turnout could shape our state for years to come.

That’s why we’re building Rally NC - an entrepreneurial and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2024 elections. We're done waiting for change. We're ready to make it happen.

Rally NC is part of a collection of state-based organizations working to mobilize student voters through creative, student-driven tactics. The North Carolina organization will build on work done by similar teams in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

What Will You Do?

Rally NC is looking for a Data Director who knows that conventional campaign data systems often fall short of reaching young voters. We seek someone who is passionate about reaching young voters wherever they are, with the creativity and discipline to adapt conventional campaign data best practices for a universe built by and for young people. Rally NC will use the voter file, but more importantly will also be building our own contact lists of students we register to vote, pledge to vote, contact on campus, relational organizing lists, and student directories. All of this will build upon one another to create the most expansive list of students to turn out.

The Data Director will be responsible for creating the systems that bring all these various different lists together, ensure they are high quality, and report to the Organizing team the progress to grow the lists and contact them as we get closer to Election Day. This senior level position will work closely with the State Director to:

  • Work collaboratively across departments to manage metrics, effective reporting, and data tools
  • Oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of automated and manual reports and dashboards that assist with tracking program metrics and progress to inform strategy (likely through extensive use of Google Sheets)
  • Administer and support Blocks for voter registration; working with operations staff to implement quality control review and best practices
  • Work with Rally NC leadership to manage and develop contact voter contact universes
  • Work to develop, maintain, and improve the campaign’s data infrastructure including managing lists from various sources including voter registration, pledges to vote, student directories and the voter file. Strategize new ways to build better lists
  • Work with campaign leadership and staff to monitor progress to goal and ensure high quality data collection, including reviewing data collected and reporting out on the quality and accuracy including phone numbers and completion rates of voter registrations and pledges to vote
  • Administer and support VAN and other voter contact tools
  • All other duties as assigned

Who Are You?

A successful candidate for this role will have:

  • At least two cycles of campaign experience, at least one in a data role
  • Intermediate or advanced experience with Excel or Google Sheets is required
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, responsiveness, and a passion for the work
  • Proficiency with VAN, including experience with VAN as an administrator (e.g., managing user profiles and scripts, creating virtual phone banks, cutting turf and MiniVAN)
  • Proficiency with tools such as GetThru, Scale to Win, and/or other voter contact tools that sync with VAN

Bonus for experience with any of the following:

  • Proficiency with using Blocks for voter registration field reporting, quality control and data data entry, or quick to learn a new tool
  • Proficiency with a data visualization tool such as Google Data Studio, Tableau, or Datawrapper
  • Proficiency with at least one relational organizing tool such as Empower, Openfield, or Reach
  • Prior staff management experience is a plus
