Task Description
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Database Engineer and Administrator to manage the secure deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of Microsoft SQL Server databases within the FEMA Risk MAP environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, performance tuning, and cybersecurity best practices. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure the integrity, reliability, and security of our database systems.
LCAT Description
Systems Engineer II: Level II (DC02) - Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.

Required Skills/Level Of Experience
- Experience designing, deploying, and managing Microsoft SQL Server databases for high availability (5 years)
- Experience performing database upgrades, hardening, and ongoing patch management to maintain compliance with strict security standards (5 years)
- Experience with monitoring and analyzing database performance to identify and resolve bottlenecks, including implementation of database monitoring and alerting (5 years)
- Experience optimizing data schemas, indexes, and queries for improved performance. (5 years)
- Experience designing, deploying, executing, and testing database backup and recovery strategies (3 years)
- Experience automating repetitive database administration tasks to increase efficiency and reduce errors (2 years)
- Experience working as part of an Agile team (2 years)
- Experience working with AWS services including RDS, Aurora, EC2, S3, EBS, and AWS Database Migration Service (2 years)
- Possession or ability to obtain and maintain the required a favorably adjudicated DHS Public Trust background investigation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications in SQL Server and AWS RDS.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proactive and self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility.
