Job Overview: We are seeking a Director of Amazon who is both strategic and hands-on to lead and optimize all aspects of our Amazon business. This role requires a deep understanding of the Amazon ecosystem, including advertising, product listings, customer insights, and operations. As the Director of Amazon, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive significant growth while also rolling up your sleeves to manage day-to-day operations. In our start-up environment, you will be expected to wear many hats, lead cross-functional teams, and drive innovation to maximize our brand’s performance on the platform. This role reports to our Chief E-Commerce Officer and is 100% remote.


Key Responsibilities

  • Amazon Strategy Development: Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive Amazon strategy that aligns with Zena Nutrition’s business objectives. Balance long-term strategic planning with the ability to act quickly on immediate opportunities.
  • Tactical Execution: Be hands-on in managing the day-to-day operations of our Amazon business, including advertising campaigns, product listings, and customer interactions. You will directly influence the execution of strategies you develop.
  • Advertising Leadership: Oversee all Amazon advertising efforts, including Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display, and Amazon DSP. Develop advanced strategies while also managing the tactical implementation to drive growth and visibility.
  • Product Listings & Optimization: Take a hands-on approach to ensure all product listings are optimized for SEO, conversion, and overall performance. Regularly update and refine listings to reflect best practices and improve rankings.
  • Budget Management: Manage and allocate large-scale multi-million dollar ad budgets, ensuring efficient spend while driving significant growth. Be prepared to adjust strategies in real-time based on performance data.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage in-depth analysis of campaign data, trends, and performance metrics to inform both strategic planning and daily operations. Utilize tools such as Amazon Advertising Console, Seller Central, and third-party platforms like Teikametrics and Helium 10.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with sales, marketing, operations, and product development teams to align Amazon strategies with broader business objectives. In a start-up environment, this may involve direct collaboration and swift action across teams.
  • Market Research & Trend Analysis: Continuously conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify and act on growth opportunities. Stay ahead of industry trends and ensure Zena Nutrition remains a trendsetter in the supplement space.
  • Innovation & Testing: Actively test and implement new ad formats, tools, and strategies to stay ahead of competitors. Be ready to experiment and quickly pivot based on results.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Manage and mentor a small but growing team of Amazon specialists, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and high performance. Lead by example, with a willingness to dive into the details when needed.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Oversee relationships with external agencies, vendors, and partners to ensure successful execution of Amazon campaigns and projects, while being directly involved in the day-to-day interactions as needed.
  • Reporting & Insights: Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting key performance metrics, successes, and areas for improvement. Be ready to discuss both high-level strategy and specific tactical adjustments.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Economics, or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience in e-commerce, with a strong focus on Amazon strategy and management, particularly in start-up or fast-growing environments.
  • Proven success in managing large-scale Amazon advertising campaigns with multi-million dollar budgets, with the ability to both strategize and execute.
  • In-depth knowledge of Amazon’s advertising platforms, algorithms, and best practices, coupled with a hands-on approach to managing these tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data to drive strategic decisions and optimize performance, while also managing day-to-day operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring and developing talent in a start-up environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience conveying complex data and strategies to senior leadership, while also collaborating on tactical execution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment with a high level of autonomy, where both strategic vision and tactical execution are essential.
  • Preferred experience with Amazon DSP, Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC), and managing seven-figure monthly advertising budgets.
