Supply Operations Manager

What To Expect
The Tesla Supply Chain team is looking to hire a skilled Supply Operations Manager (SOM) to support the entire Direct purchasing process for an assigned group of Tesla vehicle product commodities. This role is involved in the development process for new products from an early stage along with leading change management of existing products as well as sustaining activities. In addition, it is the link between external suppliers and internal stakeholders. This position will be located in Austin, TX and will work closely with the Supply Chain Managers and Supplier Industrialization Engineers in the US who are responsible for the strategic procurement and quality of commodities globally. You are also the reference person for Engineering, Material Planning, and NPI teams on product groups in your scope.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Managers and Supplier Industrialization Engineers to ensure commodity strategy aligns across all Tesla product platforms
  • Support stakeholders with day-to-day plant-specific operational purchasing tasks; including sending PO’s, RFQ creation and support, price updates based upon contractual agreements, and other work to ensure supply continuity
  • Act as first line of defense in problem resolution for plant specific supply chain issues, pulling in required stakeholders as necessary
  • Manage respective supplier relationships and performance post sourcing; including but not limited to dispute resolution, invoicing and goods receipt issues, on-time delivery, and other topics
  • Lead and execute supplier resourcing projects as needed. Responsible for ramping suppliers to achieve build plan targets; Develop sourcing and negotiation strategies that deliver against business objectives and achieve sustainable relationships with suppliers
  • Responsible for analyzing supplier quote proposals, making data-driven recommendations of supplier selection and conduct specific negotiations on supply to meet program timing; Develop, track, and report project and plant related supply chain KPIs to management to allow for more informed decision making
  • Manage supply chain readiness for new products by ensuring cross-functional stakeholders are driving towards project timelines and goals; Act as the main point of contract internally and externally for program specific supply chain questions- including key milestones, quantities, and changes in scope


  • What You'll Bring

  • Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering and/or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability
  • 2+ years of experience in direct purchasing, supply chain, and/or program management in a fast-paced work environment required, 3+ years preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence cross functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to achieve business objectives; Meticulous, with an extreme attention to detail
  • Strong sense of urgency and an ability to work independently in an ambiguous environment
  • Experience with New Product Introductions; Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel
