Director of Compliance

Work Location: Hybrid in the Malvern, PA or West Reading, PA office, coming in at least 3 days per week with Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday being the set in-office days. If within a 50-mile radius of a Customers Bank location, the expectation is hybrid.

What you'll do:

The Director of Compliance role encapsulates the non-BSA and non-testing and monitoring portions of the compliance risk management responsibilities. This includes but is not limited to compliance responsibilities involving regulatory change management, internal change management, assessment of risk, project advisory and oversight, establishment of compliance controls, question answering and research, review of public materials and disclosures, and policy and procedure collaboration. This position has several direct reports including individuals with focuses on loan compliance, deposit compliance, Fair lending, HMDA, CRA, UDAAP, and Complaint Management. This position will work with the Chief Compliance Officer to assist in managing the Bank's Compliance Risk Management Program.

  • Maintain a broad compliance skill set, with particular focus on consumer regulations and emerging theories and best practices for the management of compliance risk.
  • Manage and lead compliance team efforts.
  • Assist in the administration of the Compliance Risk Management Program such that it effectively monitors and controls material compliance risks
  • Monitor changes in the regulatory compliance environment and advise the Chief Compliance Officer, as appropriate.
  • Work to oversee the implementation of new or changed compliance regulations
  • Provide compliance updates and reports to Chief Compliance Officer
  • Represent the Bank to the Bank's prudential regulators and/or other similar entities including during related exam processes or as otherwise required
  • Advise Executive/Senior Management, the Board Compliance Committee, and the Board on Compliance risks regarding key business decisions
  • Work with other Business Unit leaders to coordinate compliance related efforts including third party risk management efforts


What do you need?

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education and related training
  • Ten years of business-related experience substantially comprised of compliance and managerial experience, evidencing a growth in responsibility with an emphasis on compliance and risk management processes
  • Prior work experience managing CRA and General Compliance.
  • CRCM or equivalent professional certification required preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as job will require extensive interaction with various business units among multiple disciplines including Senior and Executive Management
  • Ability to communicate and work with state and federal regulators
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to manage and prioritize appropriately multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to identify issues for escalation to Senior/Executive Management, as necessary
  • Solid understanding of risk management processes and risk analysis
  • Expert knowledge of broad-based compliance regulations
  • Ability to shift focus to high-risk compliance areas as they change over time
  • Ability to travel, occasionally overnight
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as strong report writing and documentation skills
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound and balanced judgment
  • Ability to proactively identify risks and the ability to devise effective and viable solutions
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a range of senior managers, peers and junior colleagues
  • Ability to build strong and productive working relationships
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead and motivate other TMs as part of a diverse and cross-functional working teams


Technology Skills:

  • Basic proficiency and understanding of computers and technology required. Advanced proficiency and understanding is preferred
  • Basic proficiency or better with Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Basic Adobe Pro proficiency
  • Working understanding of apps, software, MIS systems, etc.
