You’re an exceptional media mastermind who not only has a clear map of the evolving media landscape, but also knows how to roll-up their sleeves and devise an innovative media plan. The idea of building up a high-performing media team is exciting to you, and you have a proven record of mentoring talented team members. You are someone who is a creative problem solver and believes that no two media plans should be the same. And most of all, someone who is driven to create a monumental impact for our clients and agency.

What You’ll Do

At Madwell, we believe that the medium is the message. That where a message shows up in the world is just as important as what that message says. And because of that belief, our media discipline is just as responsible for out-of-the-box and never-been-done-before ideas, as our creative team. As a Media Director, you’ll be a lead in the media discipline guiding in-platform buying and media execution. Not only will you dive in deep to data reports and results to guide media recommendations, but you’ll also stay close to existing campaigns to optimize effectiveness.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Unlocking new opportunities for the agency and our clients through data driven insights. Connect various data inputs to tell a cohesive campaign and brand performance story
  • Distilling complex media inputs and ensuring they are not only understood but also applied by creative teams and clients alike. You are able to adapt your approach in real-time regardless of the situation
  • Advancing media skill sets through mentorship, training, tools, and best practices. Leading and inspiring the team towards ambitious goals to build the agency’s media savviness
  • Managing the media team across various clients, campaigns and needs. Uses a keen attention to detail to support the team in managing all elements of the campaigns running smoothly, from media planning to media billing
  • Collaborating closely with our clients. You’ll understand their business challenges and offer unexpected media plans. You can influence the most senior client decision makers (ya know, someone like the CMO or CEO) and ensure Madwell is a trusted media partner
  • Providing thought leadership on innovative and new approaches for buys within the digital space. Stay closely connected to outside media partners to ensure our clients have cutting-edge and beta media opportunities. Ensure the larger agency is aware of new placements and formats
  • Push for innovative and never-been-done-before media strategies and ways of working. Pivoting our approach to media to keep up with the ever-changing marketing landscape and dynamic needs of our clients. Create thought leadership content for the agency and industry
  • Oversee the setup, execution, and optimization of campaigns on self-served platforms, while tapping into data performance to improve campaign effectiveness
  • Commanding a room through persuasive, compelling presentations. Be unflappable when things get tricky. A keen ability to present complex ideas that inspires junior team members and c-suite executives
  • Prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our work

Our Must-Haves

  • A modern media mastermind. We need someone who has a deep understanding of the messy modern media landscape, along with the processes and platforms that are table stakes in today’s world. Someone who is a self-serve platform power user, and knows how to flip those placements on their head or unlock opportunities that have never existed. That can take a creative idea and push it two steps forward based on where it’s placed in the world, or unlock a completely new creative idea from media behavior
  • A data whiz. Unlocking truly unconventional insights comes from a mix of art and science. It’s not only about crunching the numbers, but also insights that can inform or change the trajectory of a business. Someone who has the ability to distill complex information into a concise and clear narrative
  • A radical collaborator. The kind of person that’s more comfortable in a creative brainstorm than sitting behind a screen. We need this person to become comfortable working with varying expertises, departments and backgrounds. They listen to differing perspectives and bring their thoughts forward
  • An entrepreneur. We’re on a journey to do what’s never been done before, we need someone who wants to continually be learning, re-thinking the process, creating new tools and challenging the status quo. We need someone completely unafraid of change and ready to excel in ambiguity

Where You’ve Been

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Proven track record (8+ years) in cross-channel media planning + executing roles, preferably in a creative agency or related industry
  • Demonstrated success in buying media across various platforms, as well as mentoring others

Lines of Report

Reporting to: Head of Integrated Strategy

Direct reports could include: Senior Media Manager(s), Media Manager(s)

* This is a hybrid role based out of our NYC office, you must be located within commuting distance of Brooklyn, NY to be considered for this role. This role requires the candidate to be in the Brooklyn office 3 times a week*
