JOB DESCRIPTION:

The candidate for this position must reside within the Northeast Region.

Officer position responsible for the direction, management and oversight of the Risk Control function within the Northeast Region. Ensures effective implementation of strategic and operational objectives and policies for Risk Control, in accordance with the company's strategic plans.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Implements strategic objectives with measurable impact and success for Risk Control in assigned geographic region, customer segment, or line of business.
  • Monitors overall performance and operational results of the Risk Control unit. Drives implementation of policy, procedure, compliance initiatives and best practices across the Risk Control function.
  • Monitors growth and business written to ensure Risk Control resources are in alignment with business objectives. Demonstrates Risk Control impact with delivery of customer services.
  • Advises, zone, customer segment, distribution staff, and product line management of emerging Risk Control issues.
  • Develops and delivers Risk Control training, educational materials, and seminars for existing staff and or clients.
  • Uses deep understanding of Segments and customer feedback to identify Enterprise Risk Control opportunities to develop innovative products and services to deliver a superior customer experience.
  • May lead, direct and have full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
  • May be responsible for book of business analysis in specific product line, market segment or geographic territory and liaison with business partners in other functions in development of corporate or local strategies to deliver profitable results.
  • May represent company through speaking engagements, faculty appointments, industry conferences and article submissions.


May perform additional duties as assigned.

Typically Vice President and above

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • In-depth technical knowledge of theories and practices of risk control and working knowledge in related the field of corporate governance, professional services, and property and casualty insurance.
  • Strong communication, motivational, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
  • Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to drive results by identifying, and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in safety health, industrial engineering or related discipline or equivalent.
  • Typically minimum of 10 years related risk control experience, with five years management experience.
  • Applicable certifications preferred.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $143,000 to $228,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
