Position Overview


The Director of Strategic Communications will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the association's messaging, branding, outreach and marketing strategies. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication plans that effectively articulate the association's mission, vision, goals, and achievements to various stakeholders, including members, coalition partners, policymakers, media, and the public.


Key Responsibilities


Communications Management:

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan and editorial schedule that aligns with the association's goals, programs and objectives.
  • Coordinate with the FAA team and Editorial Advisory Committee to measure the impact of key messages, strategic segmentation opportunities, and messaging platform efficacy.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Oversee the production of member-focused communications, including updates, alerts, and informational resources.
  • Direct and manage freelance writers, editors, and interns that support FAA’s award-winning print and digital publications.


Content Creation and Publishing:

  • Oversee, and produce, the creation of high-quality content for various platforms, including E-newsletters, website, social media, and publications.
  • Produce, distribute, edit and oversee content for FAA’s quarterly print magazine, Multifamily Florida, and monthly E-Newsletter, Aptitudes
  • Ensure all content is timely, accurate, engaging, and reflective of the association's brand and voice.

Social Media and Reputation Management:

  • Manage the association's digital presence, including website content, social media platforms, and email campaigns.
  • Support the association’s reputation management efforts by monitoring and responding to NPS scores, social media feedback, etc. 
  • Analyze digital metrics, such as Google Analytics, to optimize communication strategies and website engagement.


Event Marketing and Communications:

  • In concert with the events department, produce, distribute and manage the prospectus for Inspire, FAA’s annual conference and trade show.
  • Oversee the design and production of event website(s) and all event marketing materials and collateral.
  • Create Scripts and coordinate content for the annual conference and other meetings.
  • Transcribe and produce the written records (minutes) for all governance meetings.


Public Relations, Advocacy, and Outreach:

  • In coordination with the VP of Government Relations and Research, support the roll out of FAA’s best-in-class housing research, legislative initiatives, and advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinate and produce print and digital advocacy assets including lawmaker “leave behinds” and other materials, as needed.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Provide timely and transparent communication during crises or significant events.
  • Coordinate with public relations firm, and other assets, to support media inquiries and other outreach opportunities.


Other Duties:

  • Work closely with other departments to ensure cohesive and integrated communication efforts.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the leadership team on communication-related matters.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, or advanced degree, in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a marketing or communications related field.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or trade association setting is a plus, but not required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Track record of developing and executing successful communication plans and campaigns.
  • Media and public relations experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
