Executive Director of College Advancement and Development

Job Description

Reporting to SEARK’s President, the Executive Director of College Advancement and Development will coordinate project initiatives with faculty and senior staff, identify and contact potential corporate, foundation, and government funding sources, write proposals and other materials, coordinate grant expenditures and submit reports. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop, communicate, and implement comprehensive fundraising goals and measurable objectives which directly support the College’s mission and purposes, strategic goals and vision statements
  • Identify and contact potential corporate and private foundation funding sources; write grant proposals, other documents and materials
  • Provide positive leadership for the advancement program to ensure accuracy, participation, good employee morale, excellent donor relations and customer service
  • Develop annual budget proposals and ensure efficient and appropriate expenditures of funds for the areas supervised
  • Effectively plan, organize and manage fund – raising activities
  • Serve as the liaison between the college, SEARK’s Foundation, and the community
  • Work closely with SEARK Foundation in selecting recipients for Foundation Scholarships
  • Develop and expand current relationships between the college and alumni
  • Participate and prepare reports for regular meetings of the SEARK Foundation Board
  • Engage in professional development in support of development activities
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with external constituencies to promote the College and the Foundation
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive engagement program designed to offer meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events for alumni of the College
  • Develop and implement a plan for consistent and positive communication with alumni of the College
  • Develop and implement an effective internal giving campaign
  • Execute fundraising activities including proposal development, prospect identification and contact management, annual giving campaigns, major gift solicitation, event planning, and donor relations
  • Maintain all donor, alumni and supporter constituent records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Abilities, And Skills

  • Demonstrate organizational skills in handling, directing and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments and projects
  • Demonstrate skill in working effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; collect data, show facts, effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or SEARK’s governing board
  • Experience working with and training volunteers
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and managing large databases
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with
    • Three years of effective fundraising or event experience, including annual and capital campaigns, and large – scale events (200 + people)
    • Five years minimum of professional experience in writing and editing
    • One year working in a grant seeking capacity and proposal writing.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years’ experience in higher education administration, teaching, or grant administration at a 2-year college or university branch campus.
  • Three years’ experience in grant writing.
  • Knowledge of individuals and businesses in Pine Bluff, Jefferson County and the whole of the SEARK College service area.
