Director of Purchasing

We are currently assisting our client, a Global Tier 1 Automotive company, with a Director of Purchasing in the Metro Detroit area. The successful candidate will fulfill a key role on the Leadership Team as this position will manage and have direct accountability for all purchasing activities in the Americas. This individual will provide leadership and direction within the business establishing a coherent purchasing strategy that is consistent with the Company’s culture, strategic business objectives, and continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts. This position will be responsible for achieving the budget objectives for all commodities globally while negotiating major Supplier agreements.

Responsibilities:

• Define the Global Purchasing strategy to improve overall business profitability
• Build and develop an organizational culture that has a bias for action, commitment to value-added services/processes, and a sense of accountability and leadership
• Develop and provide sourcing direction for their global supplier network
• Establish performance metrics, policies, and procedures in administering quality relationships with suppliers globally
• Work with site purchasing departments to create effective solutions to improve each site’s demand planning, inventory management, procurement direction, and distribution efficiency
• Analyze and evaluate global purchasing performance across multiple divisions to maximize cost-savings and profitability

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred
• Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or equivalent experience
• Proven leadership ability with a proven track record of successfully managing a diverse work group
• Experience in a lean-driven organization with a track record of achieving significant cost savings year over year
