Medical Science Liaison - Southeast Territory

Position Summary:

Medical Science Liaison will report to Director, Field Medical, Medical Affairs US. MSL is a field-based scientific expert on disease areas and ONO molecules. He/she will be responsible for field based scientific exchange with key opinion leaders, health care providers, as well, as with internal cross-functional stake holders. The MSL will leverage their scientific expertise to ensure successful implementation of medical affairs strategy within their assigned territory. The role of MSL is non-promotional in nature.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and cultivate peer-to-peer strategic and long-term relationships with medical experts in relevant therapeutic areas and ONO’s pipeline to ensure awareness and understanding
  • Develop and implement territory specific medical engagement plan which supports Medical Affairs goals and objectives
  • Provides high quality scientific information to health care providers (HCPs)
  • Understands oncology and hemato-oncology treatment paradigms, key stakeholders, and healthcare landscape within assigned geography
  • Delivers timely, accurate, and succinct scientific information to unsolicited medical inquiries in a compliant manner
  • Adherence to all OIG/PhRMA guidelines/FDA regulatory requirements
  • Timely and accurate reporting of all HCP interactions
  • Identify, document, discuss, and communicate scientific insights
  • Develop, maintain, and demonstrate scientific expertise and strong knowledge of oncology and disease area of interest, including competitive landscape, current and future pipeline, clinical practice, and study methodology
  • Demonstrate full knowledge of and ability to execute on approved medical affairs strategies, MSL initiatives, and communications (including certification on scientific content)
  • Lead special projects in collaboration with cross-functional partners such as training materials, development of advisory board materials, facilitation and/or moderation of advisory boards etc.
  • Provides support for company sponsored trials and Investigator Initiated research proposal cultivation and facilitation
  • Represent and support both reginal and national congresses and professional society meetings
  • Collaborate and provide support for cross-functional partners (i.e commercial, marketing, market access, clinical development/operations) to share insights/learnings and contribute to respective strategies
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


Educational Requirements:

  • Advanced scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP) required


Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry with focus on hematology/oncology required
  • Strong scientific acumen and background in hematologic and or/solid tumor malignancies
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skill, including formal presentation, and well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of oncology customer segments and market dynamics
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to understand and interpret clinical research
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to work cross-functionally as well as independently

  • Work experience across multiple cultures and countries.
  • Highly detailed and quality oriented


Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical information and data.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written


Reasoning Ability:

  • Strategic thinker, able to create and implement short- and long-term plans, identifying and utilizing the necessary resources to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables


Systems/Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with office suite (i.e power point, word, excel, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with software tracking/logging systems (i.e. customer relationship management systems (CRM), insight capturing systems, etc)


Other:

As Ono is a global company, this role may be required to attend and participate in business meetings in person or via conference call, that will be scheduled in the evening or early morning, or on weekends


Work Environment:

  • This is field based position. The employee is required to set up a home-based office
  • MSL must live within assigned territory
  • All hires are contingent upon completion and passage of background check


Business Travel:

  • Up to 80%
  • Must have a valid drivers license


Physical Demands:

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing, walking, grasping, and lifting/moving up to 15 pounds (e.g. in order to shred documents, to maintain a neat and organized work environment, and to lift paper supplies, and large boxes and files)
