Road to Hire is actively seeking a Business Development and Partnerships Director to join our team. Ideal candidates will be motivated to develop and create opportunities to empower our community's young adults.

The Business Development and Partnerships Director is responsible for the strategy and implementation of new and innovative initiatives and partnerships to better connect Road to Hire programs with the business needs of employer and community partners. A successful candidate will be an influential leader and self-starter with excellent operations management and communication skills. They will simultaneously inspire followership and be excited to roll up their sleeves and engage in every element of Road to Hire's programs. This role is a senior leader on the Road to Hire team and will continue to take on additional leadership responsibility as the organization evolves over the next few years.

Road to Hire (R2H) is a nonprofit organization with a portfolio of programs promoting economic justice for Charlotte's young adults through high school programming, college scholarships, paid apprenticeships, and sustained mentorship.

What You'll Do

  • Embrace and inform Road to Hire’s mission through its next growth phases; set aggressive goals and inspire followership
  • Fundraise through individual donors, corporate/foundation grant writing and other events/campaigns; maintain strong relationships with partners and donors
  • Prospect new business and partnerships
  • Track and report end-to-end program results; use results and strong judgment to inform continuous improvement efforts
  • Lead, coach and develop program staff and volunteers
  • Manage end-to-end program operations for one of Road to Hire’s key impact areas
  • Serve as R2H’s face to the community, connecting with local corporate, nonprofit, and government organizations in efforts that advance the mission, including job placement/employer partnerships
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers from multiple disciplines, including IT, accounting, legal, HR and communications/PR to manage all operational needs
  • Responsibly oversee and manage a large, multi-year budget

What We're Looking For

  • Passionate about creating opportunities for under-resourced young adults
  • Advanced understanding of Charlotte workforce development trends
  • Previous experience leading a small or medium nonprofit OR serving in a senior leadership role for a large nonprofit is a plus
  • Strong ties and existing relationships in the Charlotte community, including other nonprofits, employers, businesses, community organizations, and donors
  • Demonstrated success in budget oversight and financial management
  • An excellent communicator, able to listen for understanding and speak with confidence, diplomacy, and tact
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial leadership and results in a corporate, nonprofit, or academic setting
  • Has led high-performing teams, including managing managers
  • Strong relationship-building skills; ability to quickly build trust with a wide variety of constituents, including senior leaders in the community
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a knack for using data and real-life narratives to compel action and support
  • Track record of successful fundraising, including major gifts and multi-year donations
  • Desire to work hands-on in a performance-based, analytically-driven, fast-paced environment, while also working and collaborating with supporters and volunteers
  • Has an aptitude for making real-time decisions, measuring results, and changing course when needed
  • Eager to challenge assumptions, build, test, and learn
  • Excited about a hybrid work schedule with at least 3 days a week (we are currently in person Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in our Fort Mill, SC office)

Compensation

  • The salary band for this position is $100,000 - $140,000
  • Actual salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience

Road to Hire (R2H) works with corporate partners and universities to diversify corporate workspaces and interrupt cycles of intergenerational poverty by ensuring underrepresented individuals have access to higher education, high-earning careers and prosperous futures.

Alongside its partnerships, R2H’s programs help fulfill its mission:

  • R2H Apprenticeships program: Supports hard-working young people of color looking to break into the tech industry and build diverse corporate workspaces. R2H Apprentices participate in a rigorous six-month paid training program learning tech and professional development skills, after which they can transition to high-earning tech careers with R2H premier employers.
  • R2H High School program: Supports students at Charlotte’s Title I, low-income high schools. These students take Road to Hire classes for credit, learn technical and life skills and earn paths to debt-free college and high-earning careers.
  • R2H College program: Provides financial support, mentorship, programming and community to historically underrepresented students pursuing post-secondary education through R2H College program. This program supports eligible graduates of the R2H High School program who are pursuing higher education as their route to high-earning career opportunities.
  • Golden Door Scholars (GDS): Supports undocumented and DACA or TPS holders across the U.S. in their journeys through higher education and high-earning career opportunities.
