Part-time Faculty: Dental Hygiene Didactic Instructor

Position Summary

The Dental Hygiene Didactic Instructor shares responsibility for delivering a quality educational experience for the students in dental hygiene courses. Available courses are:

DNHY 1111 Anatomy of Orofacial Lead Instructor – Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:00 – 4:30 pm

DNHY 2113 Dental Specialties and Extended Dental Hygiene Functions Instructor – Thursdays, 2:00 – 2:50 pm

It is not necessary that candidates are available for both courses.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • The Orofacial Anatomy instructor will also be responsible for organizing and teaching in the laboratory section of the course.
  • Prepare and present all course materials in compliance with the course outline, program guidelines, and accreditation requirements.
  • Create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
  • Maintain and keep course Blackboard site up to date.
  • Discuss with students their concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the learning experience and the achievement of satisfactory progress. Meet with students, as needed, to discuss course progress, remediation, or other issues.
  • Address student issues in a timely manner, including communicating issues to program director.
  • Work in partnership with other instructors in teaching, reinforcing and evaluating correct dental hygiene skills.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of course objectives.
  • Provide a professional role model for students.
  • Remain current in the dental hygiene field and information related to teaching responsibilities.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings and calibration activities.
  • Complete required continuing education and educational methodology in specific course content.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Ability to prepare, organize, and present didactic course content.
  • Possesses course-specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (i.e. orofacial anatomy, dental specialties, etc.)
  • Able to interact effectively and professionally with students, faculty and other staff.
  • Ability to address student needs and resolve issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Commitment to the success of Lakeland students.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Interpersonal skills including questioning, listening and showing concern and respect for others.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Possess a high degree of integrity and commitment to comply with policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of job responsibilities.

Education And Experience

  • Current Ohio dental hygiene license.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Prior teaching experience in a didactic setting strongly preferred.
  • Local anesthesia certification preferred.
