The Director, Procurement will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the global procurement process to ensure the organization's operational and financial objectives are met. The Director of Procurement with a focus on pharmaceutical sourcing and vendor networks experience will play a pivotal role in ensuring the organization's pharmaceutical procurement processes align with the highest standards of quality, compliance, and innovation in the dynamic pharmaceutical industry.

Responsibilities & Duties

Global Strategy & Operations

  • Develop the global procurement strategy and execute the plan, encompassing organizational requirements, departmental growth, and vision for one-, three-, and five-year projections.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive global organizational sourcing strategy and plans.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand business needs and requirements.
  • Keep abreast of industry regulations, market dynamics, and technological advancements sourcing and procurement, and suggest and implement process improvements as needed.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • Streamline and improve procurement processes to enhance efficiency and reduce lead times.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement.

Vendor & Relationship Management

  • Strategically expand and diversify the pharmaceutical vendor network to enhance Medisca’s competitive advantage.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and suppliers around the world (with a focus on China) fostering open communication, trust, and collaboration to ensure a reliable and sustainable value chain.
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for the organization.
  • Work cross functionally with Pricing & Product Profitability, Demand Planning and Logistics to ensure success of procurement strategies.

Performance Reporting and Analysis

  • Establish and monitor key metrics and KPIs to measure the performance and effectiveness of the procurement function.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to senior management in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of procurement-related expenses.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with procurement activities, working closely with legal and compliance teams.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard Medisca’s interests.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

People Management

  • Lead and mentor the procurement team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture.
  • Mentor and coach members of your team and guide them to perform at their best.
  • Foster a high driven and engaged culture within the team that promotes a commitment to operational excellence.
  • Set clear goals and objectives, and monitor performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business administration, Supply Chain management, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) plus years of proven experience in procurement, with at least five (5) years in a leadership role.
  • Vast experience in sourcing of pharmaceutical raw materials.
  • Technical/scientific knowledge of API’s and GMP regulatory environment for each country and region.
  • Experience working with AI and technology to enhance efficiencies (considered an asset)
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel) required.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluent French and English (oral & written). The direct reports live within and outside Québec and will be doing business with vendors and suppliers overseas.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and vendor relationship management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in using SRP/ERP/MRP systems (Syspro an asset)
  • Experience with BI or other reporting tools
  • A team player, exceptional communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Hands-on, prioritize tasks, eager to take up challenges and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to track, to drive results and to take accountability, able to build positive relationships with ease and influence at all levels
