Job Summary

The Director of International and Global Engagement is a forward-thinking advocate for the Office of International Engagement & Global Competitiveness strategic priorities. As the Director, this person serves as a key bridge-builder across the institution in actualizing the mission of the College, supporting our strategic vision, offering guidance and support in international and global engagement/learning. The Director should be a highly collaborative and visionary leader who reports directly to the Vice Provost of International Engagement & Global Competitiveness. This position will demonstrate significant experience study abroad learning, international and global engagement and personal qualities necessary to serve and enrich thriving, student-centered campuses.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College.
  • Skills in technological support and delivery of study abroad programs and services; international and global engagement; knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems; and proficiency in the use of Microsoft application software.
  • Experience leading or managing major change initiatives.
  • Employ and deploy data-informed and results oriented initiatives.
  • Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of working in an inaugural office.
  • An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education is required through professional development activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality standards of work, leadership, ethics, commitment, and professional responsibility and judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and develop productive and collegial relationships, collaboration, and communication with on-campus constituencies and external partners and build effective teams as needed.
  • Participate on college-wide committees as needed to represent the Office of IEGC initiatives.
  • Research and stay abreast of regional and national trends related to student abroad.
  • Highly collaborative leader with experience in a comparable college/university with a proven track record of enhancing quality, excellence, and study abroad success.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain procedures and guidelines for study abroad and in country learning; recommends and interprets Dallas College policy while maintaining compliant to achieve the vision, mission, and goals of the organization.
  • Responsible for assisting in establishing Dallas College policies study abroad, student travel, health, and safety rules. An appreciation of shared governance and evidence of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administration, faculty, students, staff, and other constituent groups and partners, both within and outside a college or university.
  • Manage and maintain the operational budget to include activities, program expenditures, expense reports, purchase orders and disbursement requests.
  • Reviews and approves publicity and promotional materials such as poster signs, and all other methods of advertising.
  • Ability to take initiative, anticipate problems, and solve issues in a timely manner. Must have solid listening, oral and written communications to communicate with stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College community network.
  • Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student abroad within the institution and with accrediting bodies.
  • Excellent time management, and organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and make good judgement under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community network related to career and academic requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in related field. Official transcripts required.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible in leadership
  • Demonstrable administrative and leadership experience
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required.
  • Experience leading international and global initiatives.
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of International and Global Engagement will have the direct oversight and management of program assessment, budget management, policy formation, logistics, and strategic planning. Implementation and leverage technology platforms to support student life programming.

The Director Will Oversee

  • Study Abroad programming: including strategically planning, directing, and implementing faculty led or third-party programs. This includes budgeting and allocating resources for study abroad, supervising full-time and student employees, assessing the effectiveness of the programs and services including identifying program goals, methods of assessment, criteria of success, collection of data, and use of data for continuous improvement.
  • Establish a system for developing KPI’s outcomes and assessments and collecting assessment data for ongoing improvements.
  • Dallas College-wide programming and community partnerships for international and global engagement.
  • Represents the College on campus, in the community, and nationally in matters related to study abroad and in country learning.
  • Assist with developing, reviewing, assessing, revising, and communicating study abroad policies and processes. Such policies and modifications are to ensure continuous improvement and use of best practices.
  • Oversees allocated budget for study abroad programming; directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Supervises Faculty and Student Study Abroad Information sessions and Predeparture/Return sessions.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.
  • Performs other job duties as required.
