The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for directing the financial functions of the corporation in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board and other regulatory and advisory organizations. The CFO is also accountable for the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve Company assets as well as to report accurate financial results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Possess and perform with an executive level knowledge and understanding of the financial, accounting, and operational functions of the organization, and support the Presidents and executive management team in achieving the organization’s vision, goals, and objectives.
• Serve as a strategic partner, operating independently, effectively, and within the timelines of agreed upon initiatives..
• Lead the accounting department in developing the processes/procedures necessary to ensure
regulatory compliance, proper records maintenance, and adequate accounting controls in support of Company operations.
• Prepare for and participate in monthly project reviews with each of the President’s, executive staff, and project managers to evaluate job performance, assess risks and develop action plans.
• Take ownership of monthly financial results, including the financial implications and results driven by changes in estimates related to contract positions. This ownership is achieved through the necessary involvement in monthly project reviews.
• Support operations in managing cash flow on projects, including developing and implementing a credit and collections policy and change order management.
• Motivate and advance the accounting and finance department to ensure alignment with the Company’s operational vision and able to empower direct reports to perform at higher levels. Instill an attitude of service in the finance organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
• The CFO is responsible for managing, directing, and leading the accounting and finance
department, which includes Project Accounting and Payroll.
• The CFO is responsible for managing relevant external consultants and third parties to supplement the Company’s ability to maintain accurate accounting and reporting requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• MBA in accounting/finance, or related academic discipline is strongly preferred, and professional
experience including progressive senior management positions in accounting or finance; or
• Bachelor’s degree required in accounting/finance, or related academic discipline, and professional experience including progressive senior management positions in accounting or finance.
• CPA accreditation desired.
• Qualified candidate possesses construction industry experience, potentially supplemented by
local market experience.
• Familiarity with construction contract language, including experience with reviewing contracts in the context of accounting treatment/considerations.
• Strong working knowledge of FASB, IRS, DBA, Federal and State regulations as they apply to the
essential functions of this position.
